The Kings have too many NHL quality RDs on their roster and Ottawa has too few.

Sean Walker appears to be the odd man out with guys like Sean Durzi, Matt Roy and Brandt Clarke all having secured roster spots.

We just lost Zub to injury and we urgently need a replacement to stay competitive.

And we need to keep Zaitsev out of the lineup for as long as possible.

Why might a trade for Sean Walker be similar to the one for Ethan Bear?

2. They are both have the same height and weight

3. They are both in their mid-20s

4. They are both defensively-minded depth defensemen that can play on your second penalty-killing unit.

5. Both of their cap hits are under 3 million.

6. They are both healthy scratches and the odd man out for their respective teams.

They are not the same player. You can't templet a steady defensive responsible player, that you will give top 2 min, a 5th. With a player that isn't even close in Bear.

I don’t think anyone will say Walker is a top 4Dman . He’s a #5 rn who has struggled since coming back.

Major difference is bear and his camp were able to go out and look for a trade at the start of the offseason and no team was willing to trade for him

CAR has given RFA Ethan Bear permission to talk to other teams. From what I hear, Hurricanes still wish to sign Bear, but two sides are not close on an agreement. Remember, nothing can happen before July 13 without Carolina approval.

Agreed. And wasn't just a 5th involved with Bear. Canes also "got" to unload a contract as part of the deal.

I didn't say he was top 4 or top 2, the person made this trade proposal put him there in that position.
I said Bear isn't close to Walker and I standby that statement.
hence not something to base a templet on.

Bear was traded since he wasn’t playing well. Walker would be traded because the kids are playing well. Seems like a different situation, but I understand the comp.

Why not play JBD and Lassi?

Why not play JBD and Lassi?

I suppose neither JBD nor Lassi are NHL ready yet.

Also, Coach DJ has a bit of a soft spot for birthday boy Nikita Yikes-ev.

They have a history together going back to their days with the Leafs.

Walker hasn't been struggling. He's been scratched because the Kings wanted to take a look at Clarke. Clarke only gets one more game before they have to make a decision on him for the year, and it sounds like they're leaning towards sending him back to junior. Once that happens, Walker will be a mainstay in the lineup again.
