Hey Kirk Im just going to comment on the Marner Trade. Package wise I don't think you are to far off atleast not in my opinion. I do have a few thoughts.

First I think the islanders would have to include a better froward Beauv. I would take the older Brock instead.

Second I can't see the islanders giving up their top RD that they just signed to a reasonable contract in any trade. So instead of Pulock how and Pelech instead.

From a quick glance NYI have pretty good D depth so replacing Pelech from with in shouldn't be to hard

I think the rest of the fan bases wouldn't think that trade is close. Marner is good but he's not that good. Even with the changes your suggested it would just make the Islanders so much worse so they would never ever consider it.

I will agree to disagree, Marner is worth what I suggested, also I dissagree that it would make the NYI so much worst. So the draft picks and a prospect is a lot but the Islander would still be getting the best player in the trade by a long shot.

Trading two of our most players for total scraps feels like a bad idea, especially with how our HC is making this season go

Islanders decline so fast you have to call back to see what happened

If your team wasn't so hyped and scrutinized you might have players that can perform to their abilities. Your management is terrible, giving Tavares that awful contract when they KNEW they would have to pay Marner and Matthew's just totally inept. Letting Freddie and then Campbell go is another head scratcher.

Your Stanley cup drought will go on to the delight of every fan outside of Toronto who have to endure all the crap the Canadian media puts us through

Islanders decline.

Alex DeBrincat was traded to Ottawa for a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd. Marner might be better but not a bonified 1 RD on a team-friendly deal for 7 more years. A top/middle six LW and a promising young RW better. The Holl, Malgin, 5th Round pick part is all window dressing, there is little to no value in any of those pieces.

Jones >> Aube-Kubel (in a contemporaneous ACGM, a very knowledgeable and highly respected Toronto authority puts Aube-Kubel on waivers)

Carrick > SDA and an over-the-horizon stab in the dark

Holl/Malging/5th is probably worth the 3rd you have the Islanders sending to the Leafs. That makes the rest of the first trade Ryan Pulock/Oliver Wahlstrom/Anthony Beauvillier/2023 1st for Mitch Marner. That's an absolute crazy overpayment. Marner is a good player but I'd argue that his value (with his 3x$10.9M contract) is equal to Pulock on his own (somewhat team-friendly 8x$6.15M.). Throwing in a young goal scoring prospect on an ELC in Wahlstrom, an okay middle-6 player in Beauvillier, plus a 2023 1st is overkill. The only thing that would keep the Islanders from immediately declining this is Lou thinking it's a joke and laughing too hard to say no right away.
