What if we never trade Buchnevich

Created by: Breadman_10

Description
that trade was hot garbage, I just want to imagine the timeline where we don't trade him for Blais, who has been bad since coming to the team. We likely never have to trade for Copp at the deadline, although injuries were a factor in that.

The Draft is really where NYR took their lumps...imagine if they could redraft recent years

2020: Stutzle instead of Lafreniere
2019: Zegras or Byram instead of Kakko
2018: Wahlstrom instead of Kravtsov, Feheravy instead of Lundkvist
2017: Necas instead of Andersson, Jason Robertson instead of Chytil

Thanks. I suddenly don't feel well. I have to take a half day for mental health.

Lafreniere was the consensus #1 pick at the time iirc, and so was Kakko at #2. I cant say too much about Wahlstrom but Kravtsov has had issues with injuries as of recent, not something you can really control too greatly. Lundkvist was also a phenomenal prospect for us stuck behind a deep pool of defensive talent, even if he wasn't given a completely fair shot on the roster, and we managed to recoup a 1st round pick for him regardless. Andersson was a mistake of a pick straight up, I can't deny that, and Chytil has been a great player ever since the playoffs where he stepped up, not Robertson's level obviously, but still completely serviceable, and who knows whether or not Robertson would've gotten the chance with all the wingers we have on our team anyways.

Laf still goes #1 in a redraft, and Wahlstrom hasn't shown much more than Krav yet. If the rangers didn't draft Kakko at 2 there would have been riots, and he has shown he can be a high quality top 6 winger. Chytil has been great, not Jason Robertson great but Robertson wouldn't be the same on the rangers. Lundkvist recouped a 1st for the rangers and Fehervary hasn't shown he has been worth that yet. Andersson is the only true miss here, and the only reason the rangers drafted him is because they wanted Elias Pettersson and the front office freaked out when he went to the Canucks

can't really play the what if game - doesn't apply here so much.
whichever team had pick 1 in 2020 was taking Laf and whichever team had pick 2 in 2019 was taking KK.

Lafreniere and Kakko were certainly the guys and skipping them would have been off the board. But the Andersson and Kravtsov were both mistakes that early. Vilardi and Wahlstrom would have been the consensus choice alternatives.

Fehervary has been excellent. And would go top-15 in redraft. If the dman in 2018: Dahlin, Hughes, Dobson, maybe Bouchard go ahead of Fehervary…rest would fall past him.

The premise of the ACGM was to play “what if” with trades. I am saying could have made up more ground by playing what if with draft.

I would have loved for Buchnevich to stay.
I miss the Buch.
But it is hard to young players to develop in the top 9 bottom 6, when prior to NHL they been top line players.
And NYR prospects always taking their time to develop, why that is? Who know?
