Along those same lines...If the NHL stopped today, what current roster players go to the HHOF?

Locks:
Ovi
Sid
Malkin
Bergeron
Vasi
Kuch
Stamkos
Hedman
Perry
Price
Kopi
Doughty
Quick
E Staal
Kane
Toews
MAF (edit)

Bubbles:
LeTang
Marchand
Phil
McDavid
Tavares
Giroux (edit)
Backstrom (edit)

If Osgood, Barasso, and Vernon aren’t in, Quick isn’t close imo. McDavid (arguably the most talented player of all time) and Kessel (purely because hockey people respect the iron man streak above most records) are way closer to locks than Eric Staal or Kopitar (think those guys might be stuck in the hall of very good). I also think injuries prevented Backstrom from reaching even a fringe case. No individual hardware, not a lot of goals, only barely a thousand points, and only the 3rd best forward on a single cup victory.

I'd say he's bubble candidate (most G-man seem to be; see Osgood for goalie struggles)!
Cup,
Vez
299 NHL Wins
A World Cup

Biggest rub is likely how he tailed-off too quickly. Had 8 consecutive years of >20W's then couldn't stop a beach ball...

Gets a Cap's jersey retirement, just not sure on the Hall.

Quick - 2 Cups, Conn, OLY Silver...IN
Osgood should make it.
Barrasso too.
And Vernon.

2 cups + Smythe for a goalie doesn’t mean much, we’ve seen that. Barasso has 2 cups + Vezina + Jennings + Calder, Vernon has 2 cups + Jennings + Smythe, Osgood has 3 cups + 2 Jennings. All those guys did what Quick has done long before he was around and they’re still waiting. Maybe if he reaches 450 wins, but CuJo did that too, and isn’t in. Olympic silver means nothing when he didn’t even play in that Olympics lol, the USA didn’t medal when he was the starter. Quick’s 4th or 5th in line for fringe goalies, behind the locks like Lundqvist and Price. Hell, there’s even a solid argument for Rask over Quick.

Marek discussed Klingberg, Shattenkrik, and Kulikov but Friedman shot it down

Says Leafs want more 2-way or Defensive type of guys

To me it should be someone who can play either with Rielly (i.e. Murphy) or play a very similar role to Muzzin

Bergy and Chara are locks.
Marchand - I personally would put him in for his overall Hockey Hardware (jr, intl, NHL)...hockey community has him as a bubble or bust I'm sure LOL.
Pasta - will if he keeps it up - but too early to call. Wicked draft year w/ Pasta/Leon as clear cream of that draft (w/ h.m. to Point)!!
Rask - gets B's rafter treatment. The Hall is remotely possible but...a lot of goalies w/ better resumes are currently on outside looking in.

Zaitsev's only real accomplishment was suckering Lou into that god awful deal

His bar is just getting lower to where if I had to chose between him and Vlasic I would choose neither and bring back Marincin

comically embarrassing. tanking teams should be taking note, the losing just coarses through zaitsev's veins.

STL is still a very good team. They had a rough stretch for sure. Not many holes in this lineup.

Will give them credit for tonight as they somehow kept Avs from tying even though it was 6 on 3.

Could be a turning point but still early so lets see

Okay, well in that case, based on precedents, we can definitively conclude that if the world stopped today, Quick would have no shot at getting into the hall of fame. And Carter’s an easy hard no as well. It’s not the hall of guys who were good middle sixers in their era 🤷‍♂️ You can only induct 4 per year, and sometimes the whole slate isn’t used. Guys need to be actually high end, not just above average for a portion of their careers.

They have a great forward core. Their defense does not have a true top pair defenseman and their goaltending is mediocre at best
