"Give up" is a bit much considering they got the 13th overall pick in return. Still surprising, though.

They traded away a 21 YO 3rd overall pick for the 13th overall. They gave up on him in order for mid teens pick in a weak draft. I'd say that's giving up on him.

Like did they not think to try him at wing like what MTL is doing

I get he was supposed to be a franchise C but not all C's work out at that role but transition them to wing they thrive.

In a more roundabout way, Habs did the same with Kotkaniemi though - just not via trade, but opting on not matching an offer sheet. They gave up a 21 year old 3rd overall pick for a first rounder (and a low third)

My bad, read that as "give up Dach" - as in give him away.

Yes we did give up on him. He wasn't worth anywhere near that offersheet and he's proved since then that he wasn't worth the 3rd overall pick we used on him. I guess it's a fair point, but Montreal was planning on keeping him

Yeah. The point was just that maybe Davidson thought Dach wouldn't become the guy they anticipated, and thusly hesitated to ink him long term, and let him go in exchange for future pieces.

Bully for him, but Dach fits in MTL much better than anyone thought, even though they initially planned to use him as a C, not a winger.

Ended up being Dvorak
A disaster
But kk was an is playing with svech and necas, he's not doing well
Dach on the other hand....
Similar situations but definitely different

Dvorak in Arizona was criminally overrated it seems, and I fell for that trap too.

I wonder if this is why teams hesitate on paying a mega sum on Chychrun... (well his questionable health provides another risk)

Chicago is doing a full rebuild. By the time they're ready to contend Dach will be exiting his prime. Plus Nazar will be a top 5 player from the draft IMO. 1C upside.

Mayfield has sucked besides goal scoring, this new system has not been good for his style of play. I'm praying someone pays him 5 mill so lou can't afford him

Don't worry, if Chiarot and Gudbrandon can get that money, so can Mayfield.

Knowing Lou though, he'll likely ship out Wahlstrom and Salo to create room for that extension. Bellows had to leave already.

Isles can afford 2.5 mill , but I think mayfield will get 5 mill from someone who overvalues big RHD.

I think Salo is gone IMO, Im a big fan of his game but Sebastian Aho has outplayed him so I think he'll be a throw in a trade. I'd actually prefer Wahlstrom to get traded, it's exhausting to watch how the team handles him lol.

I feel Mayfield will get more of a Demelo type deal but hey if someone is that desperate 4.5mill x 5 years or something aint out of the question

In general I got a feeling a lot of Dman in 2023 offseason gonna get way overpaid

the difference is I think mayfield has a better reputation and he's 6'5. That goes a long way. Im predicting the TJ Brodie deal, 5 mill x 4.

Demelo at the time was one of the most underrated defensive defenseman like the numbers he was producting and the fact he made Chabot better made the whole WPG trade weird

Like Demelo could have commanded Brodie money but he took a big discount. Maybe Mayfield does the same

As funny enough this version of Brodie was not what we were expecting as in Calgary he was way different

for sure I agree with that - Demelo was better than Mayfield, but being 6'5 and playing top 4 minutes on a team that went to back to back ECF has value which is why he'll get overpaid.

Mayfield isn't taking a discount because he's been making 1.45 mill for the last 5 years - this is his last chance to get big money.

How long does a full rebuild take? Usually a perfect rebuild is 4-5 years. Dach would still be in his prime at 25-26.

2nd part is extreme homer vibes,
