MTL says no because Marner is UFA in 3 years. They're both great players.

habs FANS particularly would say no because we would all die inside... we all love caufield
however, skill-wise, i think marner is a better player than caufield.
that being said, i dont know what TOR would think. marner is the better player, but freeing up 11 mill in cap space for a worse player (not by much) has to be slightly intriguing, even if he gets an 8x8.5 extension.

Marner is great, but if we're trading Caufield we're trading Suzuki and adding 2-3 years to the rebuild.

"WHO SAYS NO". You're even asking? Marner is not worth his 11m contract...he's the 7th highest paid player in the league.
Tell you what. Leafs live with Marner this season. Then next summer the Leafs, "gift" Marner Habs. Then the Leafs have 11m to spend on better player(s), but only if Dubas isn't GM.
