V202257

Created by: Grievous
Team: 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 14, 2022
Published: Oct. 31, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Montreal is missing a legitimate PP QB, Barrie is the #1 Dman on the Oilers PP, but Bouchard is ready to take over now.

The Oilers lack a vet Dman who is a defense-first type. This trade also allows Montreal to finally get rid of underwhelming Drouin, where there is a logjam of forwards.

The Silfverberg trade deal brings a vet, who has a scoring touch, but plays a 2-way game. Yamo is the little engine that can, but his style will lead to injury. Yamo is closer in age to the core of the Ducks and is a potential perennial 20 goal scorer. Edmonton’s time is now and with Bourgault doing well as a rookie pro, he will be ready to replace JS when his deal is done in a couple of seasons.

Interesting offer and the value is certainly there, the only issue what line to Play Yamamoto on, and we really need a power forward LW, not an undersized RW.

No way Yamamoto goes for that. He’s an aggressive forechecker and will score 25 or more in a few years.

As much as MTL would love to dump Armia's contract, they're not giving Savard and 3 draft pick while adding 2 other bad contracts.

Drouin and Dadonov's contract ends after the season, no need to pay to dump them.

      Arizona isn't taking 11.5M for a 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Yes Montreal needs a PP QB but they need a young PP QB to grow with the core not a PP QB who will be retiring when our cup window opens. I like Barrie but he doesn't fit the need/want of the Habs. Also look at the way the defense is being built, Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Kovacevic, Barron, Mailloux, Struble and Hutson only Harris and Hutson are under 6'0" all are big, fast highly skilled and physically hard to play against players (except Hutson). Barrie does not fit that mold.

I think I’m accepting this offer if I were Patty

The only context Montreal would be interested in Barrie is a straight up Hoffman or Armia swap. Montreal wouldn't have interest in Foegele. Montreal is not going to be paying futures or retaining in the future mid-rebuild to accommodate Edmonton's cap maneuvering.

Especially when the veteran they want to at least try at PPQB is still on the IR.

Arizona is also not getting value on their cap space at all.

Savard is done as an NHL defenseman. His skating just isn't good enough to defend in this league. He's absolutely a downgrade on Barrie and it's not close.
