How To Get a 1st for Dumba

Created by: MNCountryClub
Team: 2022-23 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 27, 2022
Published: Nov. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1) Retain
2) Send a pick back
3) Don't require it to be 2023

Since MN is almost certainly not extending him and we're not a contender with or without him, move the guy out and get a 1st round pick back.

IMO, this should be a template of what to look for. You can tinker the values up or down according to preference, but I feel this is a reasonable starting point.

If that's all you want for him, I'd offer Roby Jarventie and a top five protected 2024 1st round pick for him. With no retention.

I would happily accept that. I really don't think he's worth as much as some people think.

with how unstable the west is, do you think Mini just uses him as their own rental or tdl move?

It's a good question. Russo has speculated on that a bit, and he makes it sound like Guerin would move him sooner rather than later if he got a return he liked. Anyone's guess as to what that is, but assuming he doesn't get a no-brainer offer, I do think it's an own rental situation if we're in a playoff spot. If we're fringe playoffs or out of it, then obviously sell for max value.

Idk it's interesting bc the west is pretty open, as you said. Could definitely see it going either way with Dumba.

Based off what I have seen on the ice, and the flashes that this team has when they play a north south game versus east west, I don't think they will miss the playoffs, however, Dumba is now relegated to a 3rd pair D-Man with how well Addison is playing, I think you try and prop him up for whatever you can get and you fill that 3rd D role with someone more suited like Sustr internally, I just don't see why you would continue to play Dumba on the 3rd pair where he really does not play that type of game.

Yeah it's hard for me to say whether we're a playoff team anymore. I think when healthy, yes. But losing Greenway, Foligno, Duhaime and Hartman is pretty significant. If they all miss extended time or if they're on/off injuries, it's gonna take a very scrappy effort to make playoffs.

The team above could be fairly close to what we see iced throughout Nov - with small adjustments here and there. And that's not a very good team. WC at best.

Addison only plays well on the PP. 5v5 he's a mess.

Dumba has lead the team in 5v5 ToI 2 of the last 3 games and leads the team in overall 5v5 ToI. He's also 3rd in total PK ToI.

Dumba hasn't been great this year, but he is getting sold short on his contributions to the team.

Positionally the team is missing an average 1C, that's it.

Kap/1C/Zucc
Boldy/JEE/ Foligno (Greenway)
Greenway(Foligno)/Freddy G/Hartman
Duhaime/ 2 of Dewar, Jost, Shaw, and Steel

The d-corps is solid, but not elite.

MAF looks to have found his game after his rough start.

Yeah I was referring to the lineup of this ACGM, which factors in the current injuries. When healthy, I said I think we're a playoff team.

What you just listed is a healthy lineup, but if we don't get that until DEC, it makes a big difference on standings points.

I don't see the injuries having much of an effect for this month. Losing players doesn't help, but they aren't the top of the lineup players that are out. If it was Boldy, JEE, Kap, and Zucc that were out then it would be time to set the house on fire to kill the spider. MN is out basically the equivalent of a 3rd line (and grit).

I hope you're right - on paper, I agree, but IMO it will make a fairly big difference if those 4 are collectively in and out of the lineup for the month.

Last nights game was fairly mild and clean until the end, but I don't see us getting the same result if things are chippy and tight against better teams with more experience. Maybe I'm overrating the grit/experience factor, but that's just how I see it for now.

The schedule for the month isn't that bad. 11 games left and even injured they should be able to pull something along the lines of a 5-3-3 (97p pace) or 6-3-2 (104p pace) record out of the rest of the month. It might be a grind it out to OT's stretch, but MN still has all their quality OT/SO players healthy.

Averaging 6p every 5 games is really all that's needed to make the Playoffs. Even the (currently) injured team should be able to do that, as long as the goaltending doesn't implode again.
