EK65

Created by: notkyleokposo
Team: 2022-23 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 2, 2022
Published: Nov. 2, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- When healthy
- I want to see Power not be forced into top pair minutes, let him develop
- I like the forward lines so just throw in Asplund up to 3LW
- Gregor/Vinnie are exchangeable for now, Vinnie could be a really solid TDL flip too
- I want to see Krebs play his natural position of LW
- Asplud can go anywhere
- Just an idea so relax
- This deal lines up well with a lot of the other deals like Skinner; Levi and Power will be getting their deals then and Buffalo needs to start spending money eventually
Trades
BUF
  1. Gregor, Noah
  2. Karlsson, Erik ($3,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
EK is really good but has a high AAV. This trade sheds just under 8 mil and gets rid of the back end woes for the Sharks. It also gets Buffalo a true #1 RD who will be the 3rd best defenseman. This is all contingent on EK waiving his NMC
SJS
  1. Lyubushkin, Ilya
  2. Olofsson, Victor
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (PHI)
  4. 2024 1st round pick (BUF)

If the Sabres are out of the playoff contention comes TDL, what would Okposo trade value be?

Sorry for potential dumb question, but is Okposo a guy who wins board battles and does the "grind" during a game or is he more of a "skill" guy?

Erik Karlsson is #1 in goals and points for Defensemen this year, no one who is 8 mil or less could match his production so what’s the point for the sharks here? and the return ins that great.

Sharks are not publicly tanking yet. Are they a serious competitor this year? That's probably questionable, but they should be good for a first round exit at this pace. Might need a better backup goalie though, Khakonen got eaten alive in the shootout, really made him look like he didn't belong in the league.

@NOTKYLEOKPOSO any deal that has retention on EK is a not starter for the Sharks, they won't retain for 5 years on him AND the retention left on Burns.

I don’t see how a 3-8-1 team is seriously competitive they don’t have the pieces to win there are also potential franchise changing players at the top of the draft

Nooo we actually are openly tanking. Mike Grier has come out and acknowledged anyone not named Hertl is available.

the Gm has put the for sale sign up already letting teams know everyone but Herlt is available.
were "falling for Fantilli" or "tank hard for Bedard" at this point.

Got it.

And side note, not sure if the question mark was on purpose or not, but selling your captain for a non-playoff team is not out of the question (especially for an older captain on a younger team - i.e. Okposo).

To name just a few in recent history...

Bo Horvat (currently being shopped)
Claude Giroux (Flyers last season)
Mark Giordano (Seattle last season)
Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Coyotes in 2021)
Mark Giordano (Flames -> selected in expansion draft in 2021)
Erik Karlsson (Senators in 2018)
Dion Phaneuf (Leafs 2016)
Martin St. Louis (Lightning in 2014)
Ryan Callahan (Rangers in 2014)
Jason Spezza (Senators 2014)
Jarome Iginla (Flames in 2013)

nah, SJ would still suck without EK65 back there, and at least fans can cheer for good entertaining players on their team while they're losing. I don't think Grier would ship him out for this deal.

I'll be convinced the tank is real only when it starts happening (probably more close to TDL). Just looking at offers doesn't mean he's willing to firesale players for cheap or free (some people on here think SJ would give EK away for free)

Could easily see SJ taking cap back in a EK trade that isn't just some retention. If not for Skinner's NMC maybe that could work.

A lot of these were cap moves which the sabres don't have a problem with. Some of these also involve players that fell out of favor in their respective locker rooms.

****, I forgot he did that, my bad. I would desperately love to have Meier on the Ducks, I think a player like him (or Dallas's Robertson) is exactly the player that the Zegras Terry line needs to complete it, I am just not sure I could stomach the cost to acquire him.

No way in hell they trade Lybushkin. They need more dmen like Lybushkin and less dmen like EK. Way too much for Karlsson to start

fair value would be A 23 1st rounder 24 2nd rounder and a high level prospect but for Anaheim we will take Mintyukov and your 23 1st!

That's going to be a no on Minty + ANA 23 1st. We are as much in the hunt for Bedard as you are, so two top 10 pieces for Meier are far too steep a price. If Anaheim can get ahold of another 2023 1st from one of our trade pieces later in the season we can do the later 23 1st, ANA's 23 2nd, and another 2nd round piece.

There is now way Sharks are getting anything of value for EK. Package of mid round pick, b tier prospect and some contracts that needs to be move, but are way shorter, would do the trick

I know, right? We have two first overall picks on defense, let them handle carrying the puck, and pair them with guys like Samuelsson and Lyubushkin. If you wanna try to upgrade to a better physical, defensive d to pair with power, great, but no interest in adding Karlsson. Somehow I feel like keeping olofsson, Lyubushkin, and the first is the better move.

You guys don't want Minty. He just doesn't fit your typical player profile and you should deal him before he loses value.

his value is rising right now being the #1 D man in goals and points by a mile so far this season and is looking like the EK65 of old.
but i get your reasoning.

New GM, new player profile, based on how we drafted in the 1st two rounds this year, Minty seems to be exactly the kind of player Verbeek wants to get.

Even if I was willing to use Minty in the deal, I wouldn't let the 23 1st go unless its lotto protected. Sadly, unlike Ottowa, were not that one piece away from starting to make some noise. Our defense needs a rather serious overhaul and some more size and grit. Minty, Helleson, and Warren are going to be critical in that regard.

Assuming the Ducks can snag another 23 1st, I would offer that pick, a 23 2nd, and someone like Brayden Tracey, Benoit-Olivier Groulx.
