Would need a 3rd team to retain more salary, or if there's an injury. They can't run a 19 man roster into the playoffs. This is just low effort...

I also think CHI will want more than just Kakko, and will get better offers

Teams can't negotiate an extension prior to acquisition of a player, they must do that after acquiring the player.

Regarding the trade itself, I don't think the Hawks accept this, KK alone is not enough.

Cap hits are prorated against games played which is not reflected in real-time in capfriendly. Even if Kane was traded today and Hawks retained 1/2, NYR would be acquiring roughly $4.5M of cap based on games already played.

Teams can call up as many players as they want once the playoffs begins

Okay, but do you really think Kane signs a $7M per year deal for 4 years? Maybe, but that would be the bottom of what he's projected to sign on a shorter term deal.

How much of Kane's salary could CHI maximally take on at the TDL?

I think he wants to end his career as a Ranger as well as keep them a Stanley Cup Contender. When you trade for a rental at the TDL teams look at how this player could effect the team multiple years down the line. like for example: Goodrow and Coleman. A team willl most likely not win the a Stanely Cup the first year from the trade.

I was responding to the other person saying NY can't take on the cap hit. To answer your question, 50% per NHL rules at the time of trade against whatever cap is left for the player. If NYR acquired Kane today, Chicago retains 50% of the current cap hit, the current cap is no $10.5M ($5.25M at 50% retention), it is actually a little more then $9M or $4.5M at 50% retention based on 10 games already being played. So NYR would be taking on $4.5M'ish cap with a trade today...that number continues to go down as Kane plays more games in a Blackhawks sweater.

I don't think he knows and no indication he wants to end his career as a Ranger. If anything, he wants to end his career as a Blackhawks and more likely takes a hiatus for another team for a few years. Kane has another 8 to 10 years of playing time I'm betting.

I don't know about 8-10 years being 33 yrs old. You go from a bottom cellar team to the Stanely Cup Contender. Reunite with the bread man. Go to another original six team that has more publicity. Overall to further submit his legacy

I keep hearing Rangers fans talk about Kakko this year like he's had some sort of breakout season. The guy has 3 points in 11 games while playing in a consistent top 6 role. I've watched a few Rangers games this year and I will admit he looks strong on the puck and shows flashes of offensive ability, but rarely converts on his chances. For a player like Kane, you're gonna need to give up a lot more than a guy whose on pace for 22 points in an 82 game season. Start by including that Dallas 1st

His starting salary cap of 10.5 also goes down at the TDL. My understanding this argument that the rangers will not be able to fit him under the cap bc they can't take on 5.25 but 4.5is null and void

Look at it from this prospective, you are giving up a guy who is 33yrs old on his last year of his contract as a UFA, might not resign for a young 22yr who is an extra year on his contract as a RFA, who has a lot of potential given his draft year

More publicity, that's a tough call. Chicago is a top 3 most valuable franchise in the league, and holds the longest standing sellout crowd record in the league. Kane also has said multiple times he wants to work for the Blackhawks post career and spends year round living in Chicago and working with the team in the offseason. Lastly, he doesn't play a physical game so him playing until is early 40s is definitely not out of the question....Kane loves the game more then any player I've witnessed in modern times.

That's my point, cap hits are prorated against number of games played...most fans don't know this. His cap hit left out of $10.5 at the start of the season is today only $9.2 remaining....it's impossible for the Rangers to acquire $5.25M in cap today, the most would be would be $4.6 if the trade happened to today and that goes down for every day he remains a Hawk

But the Rangers have to compete with competitive offers from other teams. No way is Kane only waiving for the Rangers so automatically a bidding war will happen.

What I'm saying is that there will be better offers out there. I can tell u rn that EDM would offer more. Would probably start with Puljujarvi +2023 1st

Keep in mind you're dealing with teams that are going to be contenders that mostly don't have a deep prospect pool or young talent. what team could out bid the Rangers. Toronto, LA maybe but I don't think so.

Puljujarvi +2023 1st is not better than Kakko and what ever draft picks the Rangers can add

Rangers cannot afford to give Kane a new contract so he would be a pure rental. The Rangers are NOT trading Kakko for a rental.

The team that needs the cap space is paying for it. Hawks aren't paying for the your retention.
