Take Jones out and we can possibly talk otherwise there isn’t a point for Verbeek to waste his time

A future 2nd doesn't even buy you out of Muzzin's deal my dude, sure as hell not throwing Jones in on top of that. Ducks decline.

You'd be lucky to move Holl for FC's at this point, you probably have to pay to move him unless he is cap/warm body going the other way on a deal.

Columbus does not need another expensive winger. Any trade involving Marner Toronto will loose because you need to target roster players coming back that can help you win now. Any team that has those kind of players don't want to be stripped of their depth to take on an 11 mil winger. They've seen the recipe play out in Toronto with being too top heavy and they don't want to repeat the same mistake.

If you switch out Robertson for Niemela (or Liljegren but that's unlikely) and Vancouver could accept if they choose the rebuild route, however that seems unlikely

Both of you boys were quicker on the trigger, as usual.

I'm always amazed that folks say the the Leafs lack grit and heart and then they find a solutions in wanting players whose teams that are worse than the Leafs.
The trades....horrid for Ducks.
That's a lot of cap for the Leafs to take from Columbus for somewhat middling players.
Gotta think the Leafs are much better off with Robertson, a first and 8m in cap than Miller starting next season at 8m X7

I wonder what the "More Grit" squad think of the Foligno trade, the Ritchie signing, the Gio trade and signing.

Just to add didn't the two years of wily veteran Marleau help.....NOT or the one year of grizzled Thornton.....NOT.

About the only one have liked is 850,000 Bogosian.

I personally didn't mind the Foligno trade (I don't think he was worth a 1st but it's a TDL overpay), it didn't work out since he got injured. The reason I mentioned that one is because Dubas is criticized for it and the Ritchie signing (even though he turned it around nicely). The guys that they are often getting traded for in these mock trades will probably produce just as much as Ritchie in TOR, and they are often giving up 1st or value assets for similar players. People tend to ignore the "gritty" players on the team or players with other desired skill sets. They really do seem to hate their own as you've been saying.

Bogosian is a good one that I forgot to mention. As for the Vets, those are probably better examples for when people were saying Leafs need more leaders.

Grit isn't the answer to everything, Sundin's Leafs had so much grit and they didn't win. Maybe the goal is just to win a round?

It sorta goes against mathematical odds that the Leafs have lost six straight four rounds....including I believe five in the last game of the series.

So while the Leafs have been a good team , IMO they have peaked and with their current roster just aren't as good as last season. Nothing can really change the Leafs fortunes this season or even next.
Once they clear cap in two season, with UFAs gone and retirements, time for a retool. Leafs will always spend close to the cap, so finding a good GM who knows value is so important.
