Basically your idea is to get worse and not gain any draft capital?

The great Travy Dermy. Now there's a real incentive to get a deal done. The CFACGM legend.

So we downgrade Miller to Debrusk, retain on OEL and downgrade him to Reilly/Forbort, AND add Rathbone and McDonough. That’s an awful trade for the Canucks

You gain about 5m in cap back from OEL who has been awful and will get worse. I don't know he has any value at 5m over 5 years so it might cost. Debrusk is younger and we avoid another lengthy cap hit for close to a decade. Debrusk is also talented albeit hasn't had JT production who produced more in years older than Debrusk is now.

How would you get any draft capital from OEL? He hasn't been much of a contributor this year at all. At least Forbort could provide defensive contribution to which the team desperately needs. At the same time, it's previously been discussed he would waive for Van and Boston. You also gain back considerable cap to utilize in the future with both JT and OEL leaving. Debrusk is young and nothing to ignore talent wise.

I don’t think that boston trade is a fit for either team.

I don’t see any route to the bruins taking OEL, and while JT Miller is certainly a better player than debrusk, they know debrusk is a fit on their first line. Not to mention, he’s signed cheaply until he’s 27, not expensively until he’s 37.

Seems like you've thought a lot about having him as a defensive partner smile

I recall the many Travy Dermy to Detroit trades on here. I was so happy when the Canucks got him. 😁

I still don't know the purpose of the trade. Somehow get a third for Hamonic and immediately give a 3rd away.

Dermy is younger but he's not really good at anything. He's like the actor Barry Pepper. You know. The guy who played Roger Maris in the movie "61." He can't act to save his life but he somehow keeps getting roles.

I mean, we had Ben Hutton to do that before. Even could have signed him this offseason as well.

You're both underestimating the value in moving 8(!) years of Miller. The Canucks don't have leverage in moving him now but getting rid of his contract would be a major addition by subtraction if we choose to go full rebuild. OEL is our other bad deal but we can handle 4 years at 7M much more easily than 8 years at 8M. We'll have plenty of cap space anyway.

Van can't sign Bo and Kuzmenko as it stands without moving cap either.

Why would the blues ever say yes to that
Hoglander and dermott would get out depthed very quickly, and a 4th isn’t enough for barby
Try a 2023 first instead

By convincing you mean blackmailing? No thank you. Boston is going to have cap issues next year. Adding to the cap while adding 2 bad contracts is not very enticing.
