Description

Washington is so injury riddled and with the improvement of several eastern conference teams, most notably NJ and NYI in their division, it will be tough to make the playoffs. Girard becomes Caps best/second best LD and gives them a top LD next year w/Orlov's contract expiring. Also Compher contract coming off the books after this season gives Caps a lot of flexibility to replace Kuznetsov with similar talent with the rising cap. Trade would give Colorado their 2C and a solid young D. Avs throw in a good draft pick (Maybe a little different from the one I put in) to even it out a little more since they get 3 years of Kuznetzov. Ideally, by the time that contract ends, Newhook is a legit 2C and for now they can play him as a 3C on a decent 3rd scoring line once everyone is healthy.

How do you afford to sign the 11 players needed to fill the roster with only 11M?

For some reason I was thinking Kuznetsov had fallen off quite a bit, but I guess he was just bad during the COVID shortened season. Didn’t realize he was a PPG guy last year.

On a human level, it’s suck for Kuznetsov to move from a team with so many Russians to a team with just Nuke, maybe the least friendly Russian in the league lol.

Dvorak would be a cheaper option at 2C. He's always over 55% on faceoffs, not a big point producer but can play 2C time and look decent.

He could take PK time off McKinnon so he could focus on offence, just like Danault did for Kopitar.

Pretty sure Lehkonen would speak highly of Dvorak, they played together alot on the short time they were both on the Habs.

He can’t take pk time from MacKinnon because MacKinnon doesn’t pk.

Dvorak isn’t a 2C period. He’s a slightly better more expensive version of Compher.

No it wouldn’t. Thats Newhook. Tell me how COL giving up a top 4 dman that’s younger and better benefits the Avs? Dvorak is clearly an overpriced 3C. Literally COL has 2 guys similar to Dvorak in E-Rod (who’s actually better) and Compher why would they want to over pay for a 3rd guy who does the same at a higher cap hit. Dvorak for Girard is MTL fans wishful thinking.

-MacKinnon doesn’t PK.
-Dvorak isn’t what we would consider a noteworthy upgrade at 2C for a cup run (especially at a cost of Girard).
- Girard plays more than 3rd pair minutes, regardless of his spot on the lineup. He moves up once Toews contract is up.

This may be one of the most delusional, braindead takes I've ever seen on this site. The only person on coke here is you, since there is absolutely nothing to suggest Samsonov ever touched an ounce of Coke, let alone that Kuzy got him hooked on it. Also, Samsonov was not bought out, 5 seconds of using the search function here would have told you that. Colorado would be getting a steal of a trade here, and bullsh** lies like this won't change that.

I count about $15.2 million, If the cap goes up $4 million as expected, Avs should still be able to sign Byram to a decent bridge deal (maybe something like 3x$5M) and have their 3 scratches, Fehervary and bottom 6 offense (inc. Newhook and LOC) average a little more than $1M each. If Newhook or Fehervary deserve too much to make that work, it's a good problem to have and you figure it out then.
