That's a good package but that's a crapload of retention. EK trade is really hard to price. Not a lot of teams could or would take a chance on his giant contract and it's not worth it to SJ to sell him for peanuts. I don't see him being traded unless he starts demanding it

Frankly, I would still consider EK65 a “buyer’s beware” guy. I’m still of the opinion that the Sharks never should have made that trade, but since they did, they will never get what they gave up for him. I also don’t think his current production is sustainable. While so far this season, he looks like he did in his prime, he is still injury prone and isn’t getting any younger. If I’m going to consider a move for EK, I would be looking at this season and next season, and if he continues his tear through the majority of this season and next, at that point I make the move. But as it stands, there is still too much risk to make the move for an unknown variable.

That’s just how I would handle it, whether that is what happens or not, I don’t know.

Minnesota wouldn't do this. Not with the long term contract they have and top d prospects

Not a bad offer.

But there's no way in hell that the sharks are eating $27,750,000 on Erik Karlsson for the next 5 seasons.

1) cap is going up which hedges the risk for both squads
2) hockey’s a business, EK65 will put ppl in seats in Minny during the next couple years if things go south
3) EK65 on the PP with 97 is worth the money/picks for 4 years, if he plays 12 mins a night
4) Brodin, Spurg, Addison are locks for the future adding Ek leaves room for young guys to come up and one goes in the trade
5) MN isn’t getting a 1C so add him to make a lethal PP to compete now, if he gets hurt we’re out 2 picks

Sharks quickly decline. Grier is not going to handcuff the franchise for multiple years with that absurd retention. He would be fired immediately especially since Erik is having a career year. The conversation starts with Khusnutdinov, Addison and two 1sts for 3mil retention. Plain and simple

Billy doesn't need EK to put people in the stands.
Wild play in Minnesota, we love Hockey here and second we got a guy named Kirill Kaprizov, perhaps you have heard of him, anyway he does a pretty good job of entertaining the fans.

Do you want a norris winner? Youre gonna pay for it. Immature and delusional if you think this is reasonable. He's outscoring everyone in Minnesota easily. Even your overrated golden boi Kaprizov by five points!!

The irony of calling other people “immature and delusional” then immediately referring to Kaprizov as an “overrated golden boi.”

You really are a model of unbiased rationality.

So SJ gets a goalie prospect and a 3rd for 3mil retention on Burns.. but an NHL defensemen, 3c, top prospect and first isn’t enough for EK.. they’re rebuilding, they need to maximize return on him, you might get more or you could get nothing and be stuck with an 11mil anchor

That has nothing to do with how stupid it would be for the Wild to acquire Karlsson!

1) The added cap space will go towards new contracts for Addison and Boldy (and Gaudreau, Duhaime, & Shaw), not another aging veteran on a long term deal. Especially as we deal from the fallout of 2 prior risky long term contracts.
2) We are the "State of Hockey"....we sellout win or lose. Plus, we have Kaprizov, Boldy, Rossi, and the GREEF line to fill seats. We are simple people who love hockey, names do nothing for us in terms of attendance. smile
3) Not denying EK's abilities but we already have Addison to drive our PP. We don't need another EK.
4) I don't see how EK "leaves room for young guys to come up" when he occupies yet another spot in the Top 6, leaving only the 3rd pair LHD spot open. You are also forgetting about Faber, who is expected to play right away once the collegiate season ends. Not to mention, you're taking our top LHD prospect and a 1st rd pick from a draft class loaded with highly touted forwards.
5) "MN isn’t getting a 1C" - WE CAN DREAM THO!!!! Plus, we don't need help on our PP as Addison's legit.

All in all, the Wild aren't interested in taking on risky, long term investments on veteran skaters when our strategy over the next few years is to nurture in-home talent.
