the weird story that is New York

Created by: AG_sweden
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 30, 2022
Published: Nov. 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- yes one could argue that trade this player, and move that contract. Fix this and fix that. But should they?
- Maybe what they should do is just to work through it as a team.
- there is no remedy for Shesterkin looking much more human this season.
- And as a team they feel a bit off.

The Rangers I think aren't as strong as people think they are. They're certainly a playoff team, but I don't think they're a Stanley Cup contender at this moment.

Everyone seemed to overlook the fact that the Rangers weren't a very good 5v5 team last year, but that got masked because Igor was fantastic and their PP - specifically Krieder was very good. Krieder had 52 goals, which was like 25 more than his previous career high, that was never going to be sustainable. As for Igor, I thinks he's still playing quite well but he only looks human because he's not playing at a .935 SV% clip, which again isn't sustainable for any goaltender.

The Rangers really need guys like Lafrenière, Chytil and Kaako to take the next step and start producing like top 6 players. That's when everything will start correct itself.

In your opinion, what is the biggest concern for Rangers this season?

One problem they have is the lofty expectations that people have put on them this season. Last year, no one expected them to be so good, but this year they are expected to be that good or better, and that can put a lot of pressure on a team.

I pretty much agreed with everything you just said.

There are a few. How much can the kids contribute? I was worried that Shesterkin wasn't able to win games for them like last year. And last year they won a lot of games on luck. Doesn't seem to be the case this year. But this is part of growing a strong team. They should avoid panic trades for "star" rentals. In my opinion.
Work out the issues, learn and grow from it.

Worry wart. We are way ahead of schedule, playing a way more controlled game than last year, Igor has not peaked yet and has a nice record and will dominate going forward. Aggressive depth is all that is missing, replacing Gauthier, Kravtsov, Vesey & Jones is key. Cap and future cap makes it tricky. It's a long season especially if you're waiting to dominate on a nightly basis lol
