Yzerman has said numerous times he isn't trading 1st round picks. I don't think Vancouver does this. I've always liked Horvat so I'd do it.

Canucks ask probably starts with a 2023 1st. Doubt DET gives up any 1sts yet either

The only way i see Yzerman trading for Bo Horvat, Is if he and Larkins agent can't get a deal done. And i sure hope that's not the case as Larkin is on fire right now along with Dominik Kubalik.

Larkin-Horvat would be a deadly 1-2 punch but I think Bo will re-sign with Vancouver.

Ummmm. So the Canucks say to Horvat. "We want your sorry ass outta town, so hurry up and sign with the Wings so we can get some assets back before you become a UFA." I wanna be in on that conversation.
Obviously nothing in for the Wings. They can wait till summer and see how they spend their cap, without wasting picks on a upcoming UFA.
And even if the Wings and Horvat had a "extension talk" allowed by Vancouver, and the they came to an "agreement", wouldn't Yzerman be so much wiser to Horvat, "Just talk to us as a UFA, so we can keep our picks."

Agreed, unless Detroit is still in contention for playoffs, especially if they haven't extended Larkin yet. If they wait until free agency, Horvat will have a lot of leverage in negotiations if Detroit is going in without a 1C and 2C. On the flip side, if they acquire and extend Horvat during the season, that gives Larkin less leverage.

I just think the really issue, do you even want to overpay in actual cap for Horvat and give up two good picks also. Wings are in a good position where they have cap, so they "overpay" if they want. I can't see any team that would be attractive to Larkin offering more than what the Red Wings could. Maybe the Wings are just better signing Larkin and Suter from their current team. There aren't many "premier" UFA centres available next summer. Maybe the Wings would be in on Matthews in summer of 2024.

2024 is too far away, Detroit is trying to contend now. It was said that Yzerman isn't trading 1sts but the value is okay. They would't be trading for Horvat unless he's asking something reasonable to them, I think they are fine with paying 7m for a 2C (maybe that is an overpay) as they paid Copp 5.625m. They definitely aren't going to pay him 8m+ or something like that, that's what they want to pay Larkin I think, who wants Barzal money now.

Plus there's no guarantee you'll get the player in UFA. For years Red Wings fans were sure Holland could wait until Trouba was a UFA and sign him. But the Rangers traded for him and signed him to a contract extension.

If I’m Van I think I’d like Rasmussen to be a part of the deal somehow

With how Horvat has been playing, I would imagine he could fetch a slightly better deal than this

If he came with a decent extension sure but we aren't going to pay extra for Vancouver to retain salary. We have plenty of cap.

As much as I don't like for the Wings....but I see your point. But I'm more concerned about Vancouver's end. Just thinking that the Canucks might want to resign Horvat, but by allowing negotiations with the Wings, Horvat would unlikely want to with the Canucks as he would feel shunned by his long time team.
But I could see Horvat signing with the Wings as the Wings as cap, and looks like a team that could be very good soon.

I have the feeling that Horvat might feel slighted, I believe they offered him the RNH deal, and his side saw it as a lowball, I believe he is looking north of 7m. The mock trade probably doesn't reflect what Vancouver would want, I'm sure they would want a 2023 1st or a replacement (a 3C)+prospects.

Well they don't happen all the time. Still a premium price to pay for team that is still likely to miss the playoffs. Stone had told the Sens he wasn't signing with them, so they traded him to true Cup contender...which the Wings aren't. Pacioritty. It was more of a summer deal, not forcing negotiations in mid season signing.

He's clearly taking it personally because he is popping off this year. Really making the management team sweat after 10 goals in 11 games to start the season

Larkin is doing the same as him but has his points more balanced out (6G+7A in 10 games). Barzal only has 11A in 11 Games (no goals), time for them to both ask for more than 9.15m, full NMC every year, 5m signing bonus each season.
