If Bo Horvat is dealt, That offer would be so blown away it's not funny.

And Dubas isn't paying Horvat 7 x $7,500,000 to play 3C either.

It's too early in the Shanaplan, at the end of this season it will be the 9th year, and that's how long it takes to lay the foundation (based off how long Yzerman was with Tampa as GM+Advisor). Starting next season the Leafs will have 3 years to win a cup, if it doesn't happen, then time for a new plan.

Caps would just retain the 50%, we’re not exactly cap strapped right now lol.

You hear that Leaf fans? Shanny and Dubas have 3 more years. It's too early to fire them.

Shhh...they can't know, there would be riots.

assuming its not a sign and trade, look at some of the more recent big name deadline trades, I think it'll be a good haul but not nearly what some people seem to think.

You think so? Blown away? Minten looked so so good this preseason. Still needs a couple of years but really looks like a guy who's going to be very good defensively and still decent offensively. Like Kampf but with 50-60 point potential. And a 1st and another defensive prospect who looks like he could develop into a good depth guy as well. Horvat scores goals sure but not a crazy amount and he absolutely sucks defensively. There are better rentals available this season than him. So how much of a haul will he get?

5th round pick is better than Korpiaslo, you’d be better off riding the goalies you already have.

I think they have more than 3 years. Zero bad contracts and the cap is going up. They have a decent pipeline still and also stars at every skater position. I think if they fail this year a new coach and GM will come in but unless they go full 180 and start trying to become the Islanders, they will have more than 3 years of being a contender.

There's already heavy rumors of Yzerman pursuing Horvat if he can't get a deal done with Larkin, And there's talk that he could offer up both Kasper and Wallinder and other pieces. But i'd be totally shocked if he offered either. but supposedly it's out there floating around.

I meant 3 years for Shanahan, Dubas probably gets a 2 year extension if they can pass the 1st round and at least get eliminated in 7 in round 2.

It took Sakic 8-years until they won the cup, and took TB 8 years of Yzerman+ 2 years of Brisebois to win. Both teams have pieces locked for at least 5+ years for them to be able to compete for more. The Leafs have potential pieces but they don't have them locked yet. The media has limited the Leafs current "cup window" for the time that they have Matthews for sure, so fans are very eager, as they should be, to win. The fact that they Leafs lost in the 1st round 6 years in a row makes fans feel worse and embarrassed but at the end of the day they would have been disappointed regardless.

there's always big rumours floating for that type of stuff and then it ends up being not nearly what the early rumours suggested

Obviously it isn't sustainable but 10 goals in 12 seasons isn't setting him up to be an average deadline deal

I know he's been pursuing him for the past year, And with Jimmy Rutherford being President of operations there in Vancouver and with Yzerman and Rutherford being the best of friends during their Detroit days. Can never rule it out. Just saying.

Just curious to where you found out that Kasper and Wallinder are potential pieces? If true, that would actually be crazy good for Vancouver

From the Hockeywriters Detroit, And they've their sources and are pretty reliable, I know that Dreger Mckenzie, Friedman and other insiders have mentioned that Yzerman is pursuing Horvat pretty heavily if he can't get a deal done with Larkin. I mean it's mere speculation and i'd be totally shocked if he gave up Kasper for Horvat.

Take it with a grain of salt, it's actually an article by Nick Kypreos and it's mentioned on the hockeywriters. And he list some players that Yzerman could give up. And mentioned Jonathan Berggren, William Wallinder, Marco Kasper and Filip Zadina as potential pieces.

Took Ovie 10 years to get past the 2nd round. It takes time for sure

Definitely not sustainable. He'll slow down and then what we'll see is a good offensive player who gets scored on a bunch.

I can't see Kasper being involved. Horvat is a rental.

Kypreos isn't a source. In 2012 UFA day he said "Suter to Detroit. Done deal."

He wouldn't be a rental to Detroit if Yzerman pursued him. And tons of insiders have said that Yzerman really likes him. If we continue our good play. it wouldn't shock me if Yzerman doesn't go after him.

He isn't great defensively but he has been on ice for more goals for than goals against in the past 6 years. He isn't getting lit up like you suggest

Would the plan be just trade Larkin and then use those assets to acquire Horvat?
