Montreal won't be trading their 2023 lottery ticket. They don't want Dubios yet anyhow, they'll be perfectly happy to pick him up in a year or two.

Mtl don't need to pay to get Dubois, they only need to wait one or two year and he will be UFA and probably sign with mtl for free.

The Montréal first round pick would probably be a top 5 pick which they wouldn't trade.

Dubois is a weird situation because it is already telegraphed he wants to go to Montreal, and is only 2 years away from UFA status. So presumably Montreal is low balling Winnipeg.

Columbus could not get the futures based package they wanted when they shopped Dubois. They had to settle on their fallback of swapping him for another established young star who had issues with their current team, Laine. Laine wasn't their first choice.

Winnipeg will probably get a mid 1st and a few B or C level pieces.

Why are we still on this mentality that Duber wants to leave Winnipeg? Why would he leave now when the Jets are doing really well?

Because a few years ago Dubois said he'd like to play for Montreal and since being traded to Winnipeg he's made it abundantly clear he intends to test free agency as soon as he's UFA eligible. That's in the summer of 2024 at the latest but he's RFA next summer. If he goes to arbitration then and the Jets don't want to pay whatever the arbitrator awards then they forfeit his rights and he becomes a UFA at that time... A year sooner in the summer of 2023.

All these rumours were during the summer, and Duber shut those rumours down altogether. Sure he might have just said what the media wanted him to say but it still counts, right? Plus Winnipeg is red hot right now and Montreal is not, so I don’t think Duber wants to leave right now unless things go south for the Jets.

There multiple views possible here:

PLD say that he would want to play for Montreal sometime because he really want it

there the possibility that like other player he use mtl to obtain a high contract

The fact that even if he could have more he still choose to sign one year and talk that he want to go to the UFA system the sooner possible

Is agent have talk alot this summer and have alot to say about Montreal as a really good possibility ( including the fact PLD was in the centre bell for the NHL draft this summer)

And your right Winnipeg is good this year and would probably be in series but honestly Montreal is not so shabby currently. Everyone was thinking what a nightmare the defense would be this year but yet the young guys seen to doing really good. They are not 100% but they're impressive to watch playing.

Allen and montembeault are doing fantastic job for the situation right now. The duo Caufield Suzuki are still hot to the fact that they are almost if not 50% of mtl offensive Right now. Dach seen to be not able to play center but he's doing really great playing with both Suzuki and Caufield.

Honestly I don't think there a sport fan that would predict the stats mtl have right now. Even if they didn't win all of them when they lost its fun to watch contrary to last year where if mtl was behind they stop play. Now the team is starting to build a identity and philosophy of being hard working, never giving up, smart , quick and skillful.l
