There aren't many top 4 defensmen available, the Leafs need to find someone that can compliment Rielly's game

I liked him and Liljgren last game other than a couple of turnovers, give it a little run and they could be good together.

Blues wouldn't. Especially when everything your offering is depth pieces for 2 Top 6 Forwards.

He was waived to start the season and didn't get claimed.

You didn't get a top 4 Defenceman in this trade. You got a #6

You top 6 forwards are not looking like top 6 forwards, if anything this is a current overpay. O'Rielly looks like he's half the player he was.

O'Reilly would still be considered a top 6 forward, Barbashev probably a top 9 if they were to be traded. Bortuzzo a top 6 D or a 7th.

How can STL say no? Youve included malgin. Add Joey Anderson and they definitely accept.

And collectively kerfoot, Holl and malgin probably have negative value and really offer nothing to STL except roster spots and, they cross their fingers, maybe move them at TDL.

Its not horrible value, two of Leafs top 4 prospects and two high picks is a nice offer, but the three other players (Holl, Kerfoot, Malgin) just make it look like a pile of misfit toys on offer.

And ultimately its the goaltending that still looks more than suspect

Kerfoot + Niemela + 1rst + 2nd + 3rd is the price for O'Reilly, if not more.
1rst + Malgin is the price for Barbie.
Holl + 3rd/4th round pick is the price for Bortuzzo (because of the cap)

This trade could work if St. Louis considered Hirvonen + 3rd more enticing than a first round pick, but I honestly don't think O'Reilly is on the trade block, and I think you'd need to crazily overpay to get him.

Yeah but if O'Rielly doesn't start rebounding, he may not get what St Louis hopes.

Not with how these players are playing currently. O'Rielly has what 2 goals and an assist through 13 games and is minus 12? I know plus minus isn't a good stat but he's being scored on a lot and isn't scoring to make up for it. He's not the player he once was.

Niemela (they would probably want Knies though)+1st+2nd+3rd is the price for O'Reilly if he's getting like 60 points and playing well. He's a 31 yo, 1C ufa. He's not bringing in more than that. Kerfoot could be tossed in for cap reasons if there wasn't other players involved too.
Barbashev for Kerfoot is more or less a 1 for 1. Barbashev is not fetching a 1st, he had one good season, and it's looking like an outlier not a break out season.
The difference in skill between Holl and Bortuzzo will make up for the cap, but Holl has no term, so at best Toronto adds a 3rd but more than likely a late pick if not nothing.

So:
O'Reilly+Barbashev+Bortuzzo for Niemela+Kerfoot+Holl+1st+2nd+two 3rds+1.65m in cap space is more than enough.
Leafs then keep Malgin and Hirvonen.

If O'Reilly gets traded with his value being low, he's definitely not bringing in a top prospect, the 1st rounder might get demoted to a future 1st or two 2nds.

Liljegren has looked as good or better than any leaf d-man so far. I still don't see why Gio doesn't play RD and Sandin LD?

circumstantial if you won't pay up we don't have to offer him to you for a bag of donuts and a coffee. We can re-sign him since he is the leader of our team regardless of production.
