Well Giroux had a NMC and completely controlled his own destiny. ROR has no trade protection. Nevertheless, I dont think Niemela is a great pick and Knies the Blues would only get his rights which isn't worth much (think Vesey and Fox went for 2nds or less) since there's no guarantee of signing with them.

I don't see how Niemela rights diminish his return. We only have the rights of our recent prospect Jimmy Snugeruud. We haven't signed him. Do you think he is only worth a 2nd? Fox was a special case in that he wanted to specifically go to NY. Scott perunovich signed with us a year or 2 after we drafted him. It's a pretty normal thing to do.

CHI probably declines. But, personally, if I were CHI's GM, I would consider that offer very carefully. Sandin still has a lot of potential to possibly fulfill and fits the timeline of the rebuild. If nothing else, let Sandin play, then use him as trade bait at some point and try to pull more assets out of this transaction down the line.

All of this is nuts by the way. You have taken a future and I would say current #4 Defenceman in Sandin for a guy who isn't worth his contract in Murphy (he is not a good defensive player, he's just the best of a really really bad bunch). And then trading our 2 best prospects and a 1st in a stacked draft for a guy who can be had for much much less. This is terrible asset management

Your narrative around Murphy is just wrong in so many ways and shows how little if any you watch him play. And no, he's not the best of a really bad bunch, Seth Jones is the best and Murphy 2nd best but also why they split those two up commonly to bring balance. Neither are paired with equal partners or partners better then them, yet they are still looking good which speaks volumes about their abilities frequently covering for their partners. I suggest you try to tune into other teams and watch a non leafs player for more then a game or two before you try to come off as an authoritative expert...you are wrong about other team's players more often then you are right; sometimes to the point I laugh out loud!

Hawks aren't trading murphy for Sandin straight up...maybe Sandin one day is as good as murphy (maybe even better) but he's got a ways to go.

Yeah, it's a gamble but I wouldn't bite. Sandin has potential to be very solid like Murphy, but he's nowhere near Murphy as of now and also just doesn't have much of advantage over guys we already have on the left side that are young or prospects. I don't get what the gain would be to gamble on Sandin. With Korchinski, Vlasic namely and others in the system, it's the one position we are solid at.

True. But also, we are years away from contending, while TOR wants to contend NOW. Murphy's contract will be over by the time we are again, and Murphy will be that much closer to the end of his career. That foresight has value too. Doesn't make it a no brainer, but it definitely makes it easier to consider something like this. Considering value alone, if Sandin is worth something comparable to what the NYR's got for Lundkvist, that is pretty close to what CHI should be asking for Murphy. So, it makes sense... ish.

Yeah, but that's better on Sandin is going to play well in Chicago and also that we don't have other options if we want to move murphy. I think there would be a number of teams in on Murphy if made available this TDL or sometime next year.

Agreed. Just trying to explore the flip side of the offer, sort of playing devils advocate, I guess. It isn't a cut and dry "No", but, I agree with you. They could probably get more.

Knies rights. But yes his rights aren't worth as much as the player himself. He's a great power forward prospect and one the Blues definitely could use, but there's no guarantee he'll sign. And honestly, I think Snugeruude's rights would only be worth a 2nd or 3rd like Vesey.

You two need to remember. Sandin is a 1st pairing. Better than Rielly already. Actually he was in his first 5 seconds in his first game.

Apparently. Just ask people on here.
