I'd much rather hold onto Kovacevic for the foreseeable future. He's looked really decent as a bottom-pairing RD and has two additional years below the minimum salary after this one.

Lol no.

Kovacevic is doing EXACTLY what you want out of a 5-7 guy. Eating minutes very effectively and killing penalties. Oh and hes at league min for 3 years and is right handed.

But again, the odds of finding an equivalent defenseman with the same contract situation are very slim so I doubt he's for sale at fair value, which means Ottawa likely doesn't want to overpay for someone as unproven as Kovacevic. MTL has the same need for him as Ottawa, and they're division rival.

IDK. Montreal doesn't have a ton of RD depth either, that's why they claimed him off waivers. That he's been effective is a bottom pair D is a bonus.

They'd certainly need a better offer than an overpaid LD they don't need or have a roster spot for.

I get the 1st round pick joke is out there but for the situation thats the ballpark I would want if I was hughes.

He is 6'4 right handed and plays at a NHL level . He is signed with term to a league min contract. The RD pool is so thin that if he was a ufa this coming offseason he would probably get close to 2 million.

Theres no urgency to trade him.

Your 2nd round pick this year. He's been great, no need to move him.

why the hell would OTT trade for a D that has 17 games in total NHL play when they have Thompson (16) and JBD (15) who are younger and better.....

Wideman is never going back to Ottawa after what him and Duchene did.
