Cool, I was worried there would be a ton of pushback for including Drouin and Dadonov

I have another ACGM waiting to show why I wanted feedback on this one first.

I am shocked you are not getting killed on this proposal since he's tied for 6th in league scoring and is having a Norris season.

Personally I think the Habs need to stay away and also... You simply cannot have Hoffman & Karlsson on the same team. You will poison everything good about this locker room.

That contract though...I mean I don't hate the idea but that is a definite handcuff.

I'd offer this with 1-2 pieces less and see if it's possible to do it for cheaper but it's still a decent deal if you're in the mindset that the contractual risk is worth it.

That contract would start to age very badly right around the time the Habs really need the money.

Kinda what I was thinking, pretty well kills the opportunity for big FA signings/re-signings unless he becomes an LTIRetired situation.

This would be a win now move at the wrong time IMO.

For the reasons mentioned by @jonh514 I would include Hoffman in the swap. Cap wise I would also include Gallagher. As for the other pieces I will leave it to the experts here.

Why would Karlsson leave one dump for another? No way Karlsson waives his NMC for Montreal.

Karlsson contract is a terrible contract, NMC until the end (means if he becomes an AHLer, he will be a healthy scratch taking up a roster spot in addition to the 11.5m cap hit hindrance), 39m in future salaries, pretty buyout proof. He's signed until 37,and he's all offense so he's most likely going to drop off sooner rather than later. Taking on that contract even with 3.5m retention, for MTL, would be a mistake.

I don't even think that Gallagher+Anderson for Karlsson at 11.5m would be worth it.

I wish we would do that... but he is our best player and the only good thing about our d core and without him we don't have any offense producing d men

Karlsson is having a really good season. I hope he continues to be the player he once was.

But that contract is unmovable. No way he would waive his NMC to go to Canada. And he’s signed until his late 30s at one of the highest salaries in the league.

Montreal is rebuilding and probably shouldn’t be focused on winning now. I don’t know where they’ll be 3-5 years from now. But in 2025 you probably don’t want to be committing so much to an expensive aging defenseman that has already had injury troubles. Montreal has enough tough contracts as it is.

I think Karlsson under MSL would bounce back, we don't need defensive D men we have those in spades. We need guys who can lead the offense and shelter the kids coming up a bit. No it's not a great contract but he would still be in our top 4 for most of it. As I said before this isn't a one off ACGM, it was a prelude to another one where IF we were still in the playoff picture at the deadline we could add peices who would help now and not sacrifice the future to acquire.

Montreal should definitely stay clear of that contract.

But I haven't seen any implication that Karlsson would refuse to go to Canada. He signed long-term in Ottawa and was willing to re-sign before the drama around him getting traded happened. Plus it's not like Cali is some tax-free haven.

I disagree 100%. This is exactly the kind of trade that Grier should be looking for. Cap dumps in return that expire sooner than later and no retention. I would do this trade in a second if Karlsson would waive. Lower finish in the standing this year and cap space to leverage while we rebuild.
