The Canucks probably can't move Miller and even if they could they shouldn't, 1) they won't get much for him or they will get a bad contract back. 2) Signing a player, then trading them away is a very bad look for management. It will lead to some players not wanting to sign with Vancouver, and those that still do will want more trade protection.

You may be right. I was thinking of a team like Boston that's facing a generation change. Having someone like Miller could help bridge between the old and new guard. And his 2022-2023 salary is low so could be easily accommodated for playoff run. I don't think Nux mgmt should care about it being a bad look. Canucks need young cost controlled players not more UFAs to sign. Frankly some UFA-aversion would probably be helpful.

Boston won't want Miller's extension considering they need to sign Pastrnak, Swayman, Zacha, and Clifton. Bo Horvat would make more sense for them since they would at least be able to potentially work him in based on what they guys sign for, if Bergeron and Krejci retire or net, etc. Adding Miller makes them lose flexibility.

The Canucks definitely should care about player relations, why would anyone sign with them unless they get trade protection? Guys like Pettersen and Hughes would probably want NMCs throughout their entire extensions and depth players will want M-NTC/NTCs. A GM never wants to be in a situation where he's handing out trade protection like candy just to get guys to sign. The impact won't just be for FAs or pending UFAs but also star/superstar RFAs, and RFAs who are close to FA/signing extensions that cover FA years. If they refuse to give trade protection, then they are probably giving more money/term.

I like all of these deals for the Canucks. It would be nice to offload Myers deal as well, if possible.

Not bad for Pearson deal. Would certainly considering it depending on what else the market bears.

I addressed Myers in the Team Explanation. Think we should flip him next year when he's expiring. Could retain salary too and potentially get a decent piece. Keeping him around this year may even improve our tank.
