Personally I like him. He just isn't a reliable top-six forward yet which the leafs really could use this season. The Leafs also don't have that many attractive chips for a rebuilding team

Why not? Don't watch a ton of chicago games but sounds like he's a solid two-way legit top-four defenseman, which is exactly what the leafs need with Muzzin out long term

He’s not a two way player. He’s slightly overpaid imo. He’s like Adam Larsson imo. Much better in theory than in practice. If ur gonna target a righty d man might I suggest Sean Durzi? Lol

He's a very solid stay at home defender, very physical and a top 4 guy on almost all teams, top 2 on thinner teams. He's very good, but not a two way defender.

Murphy is on a very good contract, one of the better deals for a defender in the NHL. Big and physical stay at home defender and has no problem playing top line minutes; extremely good player just not flashy or isn't going to put up a bunch of points...I believe he has 70% D zone starts which is what he's good at. He'd make a good pairing with Reilly IMO.

I guess there is an argument he is like Manson, but personally I wouldn’t make this deal.

He's very hard to rate by stats alone, have you watch him night and night out to look at his value. He's been paired with some awful partners more often then not over the years. His gap control is great, board play is great, net front great, protects the slot well blocking shots...that said, he's not the fastest skater and not great at zone transition as such. With Reilly, he could do well playing the anchor and allow Reilly to excel at what he's best at. Whether the Leafs could benefit from that type of role, I'd say for sure they could, but I'm not the best expert on the Leafs.

That said, Murphy is worth a late 1st all day long, maybe a bit more. Domi, with the way he's playing, is worth a late first. Hawks have no need for Holl as he would only be considered a cap dump and perhaps the Leafs can move Holl elsewhere for a 3rd or 4th rounder back instead of including it here and it being of negative value to the trade from the Hawks perspective. Either way, this deal on paper isn't far off.

Yeah I’m not a huge fan of guys who aren’t in transition. I’m a fan of guys who play a similar style to Devon Toews, Sean Durzi, guys like that lol. I don’t expect them all to be that good ofc.

Depends IMO. If you have a very strong offensive D man who struggles at actually playing defense, then a stay at home pairing is a good fit. You could go with two players that are above average at both ends and in the neutral zone as well, or you can have two guys that excel at one end and compliment each other to balance it out. I know that's over simplifying with logic, but you get the point.

Mainly because what he is we have lots of already. I think he's a good player and is only 21 but his best value to TO may very well be in a trade.

This is a good deal for Toronto, if Hawks fans are happy with that return, it’s a no-brainer IMO
