TOR hasn't wanted to trade Kerfoot for years, fans on here want him gone because of his cap hit. There's a difference.

Horvat wants 8x8 Colorado can't afford him once they sign both Byram and Newhook.

Then he would just be a rental. It’s a steep price, but we’ve seen it work out before with teams like Tampa.

Not true. What pure rental did Tampa pay that price for? Wasn’t Coleman. Wasn’t Hagel.

Coleman was a very similar price, as well as Goodrow. Hagel doesn’t seem like a rental at this point. I know those guys had a couple years on their contract, but point is they were never going to be resigned. Teams pay firsts for rentals all the time.

Teams generally don’t give up their best prospect+ for a third line addition.

They weren’t rentals. Coleman had another year, Goodrow had another year, Horvat would be a half season rental. COL says no all day long.

Oh come on, Garland is at least a 2nd liner

You could certainly get more for Kuzmenko, teams would line up for a player of his cap hit and quality.

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure what his value would be, since he’s only played like 15 NHL games. I just didn’t want to put something that seemed too outrageous lol

That's fair. I see him as getting a second + decent prospect from a team at the deadline, as long as he continues to score at a reasonable pace. For example, something like a 2nd + Brent Johnson from Washington.

Sure. On most teams. On boston he’s a third line addition based on the following four wingers being clearly ahead of him - Taylor Hall, Jake Debrusk, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak.

I said he’s a third line addition because he’s an addition to the bruins third line.

All three of those guys had term. By definition, that makes them not a rental.

You make a good point. I personally think that he could challenge Debrusk for that final spot, but even if not, that would give the Bruins a really scary lineup if you have Garland on the third line. Garland-Coyle-Zacha would be a really, really scary third line, one better than a lot of teams second lines. Idk, I think I’d go for it while you still have Bergy and Krejci.

Okay, fair, but then let’s look at some true rentals that have gotten similar prices at the past 3 trade deadlines:
- Giroux to FLA got a first and a prospect
- Jarnkrok to CGY got a 2nd, 3rd, and 7th
- Chariot to FLA got a 1st, 4th, and a prospect
- Copp to NYR got a 1st, 2nd, 5th, and a player
- Foligno to TOR got a 1st, and 2 4ths
- Savard to TBL got a 1st and a 3rd
- Athanisiou to EDM got 2 2nds
- Toffoli to VAN got a 2nd, 4th, player, and prospect
And none of those players re-signed with that team. There is a precedent for teams doing this.

I’m not saying garland wouldn’t be a good addition, but teams don’t give up their best prospect to fix the third line.

Also, the value is pretty significantly off.

Kind of moving the goal posts regarding the conversation. I never commented on the value of the trade, just the comps.
