Jersey Thrills

Created by: Lancebmx
Team: 2023-24 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 14, 2022
Published: Nov. 15, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jersey adds an elite top end talent but loses one of their top defensive prospects in the process. I didn't bother with a Severson trade since that is not the point of this. More than enough cap space if they want to pursue a goaltender in free agency like Jarry, Hill, Lankinen or Korpisalo. Or if they wanted they still have a decent amount of trade chips to try and go after a younger option like Knight (unlikely), Swayman or Vladar. I just chose to run with an internal option. Either Schmid or Daws could easily serve as the back up.

NJ passes. They need a Nemec type player more than they need Kaprisov.

Minny declines. Would expect the deal to be around Bratt + Nemec/L. Hughes or something like that. Dont think NJ would do that, but something like that is what I would expect to pry Kaprizov out of Minny

Bratt in this situation doesn't make much more sense than Kaprizov. Actually I would say even less. They would have to resign him and since the Wild in this scenario are technically retooling / rebuilding Bratt could say he wants a stupid amount of money to stick around or else he just signs one deals until he's a UFA and walks. I'm looking for players that would be starting to enter their prime or be close to it by the 25/26 season when the big money from the buyouts is done. So I chose a good young roster player in Zetterlund, a highly rated prospect in Holtz, a top prospect in Nemec and a first in the year of the draft the trade is made for. I consider the value to be 4 1sts and a 2nd, Nemec being worth 2 1sts being a 2nd overall pick.

I have mixed feelings about this trade. Kaprizov would be a big add for the Devils, solidfying their top 6. He would be Kovalchuk 2.0 and it doesn't really ruin the Devils current team (Severson replaces Nemec, Kaprizov replaces Holtz). However, he does only have 3 years left and after those years, I really don't see him staying. Giving up Nemec + Holtz + Zetterlund + 1st is just too much for 3 years of Kaprizov

That's such a long time away, he could choose to walk or considering the devils look like a threat for the next while might want to stay. Bratt could walk in two for nothing as well. I don't think it's a bad thing to think that far ahead for a team but not wanting to make the trade based solely on that is kind of weak in my opinion and I don't mean to be offensive when I say that.

Wild aren't trading kaprizov points blank. It will cost you Hughes and more. He's not waiving. Not in a million years Minnesota us trading kaprizov

Kaprizov is wild most electric player since gaborik. Don't know why people on here think they can offer crap for wild players like kaprizov and expect that wild fans won't react. How about you offer Hughes or more? Kaprizov won't waive. Guerin would get fired

Fun trade. I doubt either side would go for it. Maybe Minnesota, can’t speak for them, but I doubt Fitzgerald goes for it. I just think 4+ years of Zettterlund, 7+ of Hoktz, Nemec, will be better for us than 3 years of Kaprizov.

If it does cost four 1sts…I’d rather see more of that come from actual picks. Also, if Minnesota still needs a top-6 center, Mercer would probably be included.

So maybe it would end up being something like Mercer, prospect, two 1sts.

I was thinking a trade with Mercer. Swapping Holtz and Zetterlund for Mercer. Not sure if that's close or not. In this scenario, which is posted on the Minnesota one, Minnesota would be looking for players just entering or just into their prime in 25/26 when the big money from the buyouts is off the books. So without entering a full rebuild and trying to focus on acquiring prospects that could be on the roster in a year or two was the key.

Mercer + Nemec + 2024 1st. I figured giving up one elite piece was enough but this would be great too.

I doubt Luke Hughes is moveable at this point. His brother is face of franchise and NJ is all in on the Hughes brothers. Also the poster is not a Devils fan. No reason to get on him. It’s an original idea…which can be rare in these.

(And Kaprizov does not yet have ability to block a trade, so no waiving would be necessary).

Kaprizov does. Look at his contract..it's a no trade or no movement. When he signed, his agent made sure he got it, so he does. Again it doesn't matter though. Kaprizov is going nowhere. He would cost Hughes and more. The poster is also a troll. Dude created another proposal that he gave away Marcus foligno and other wild players for crap

I guess the scenarios that make that plausible would be (a) Severson extends in NJ; (b) NJ feels Seamus Casey’s start in NCAA is legit; and/or (c) Mukhamadullin passes Nemec in prospect depth chart. Each are probably below 50%, but are realistic enough not to say, “never”.

Players need to reach a certain amount of service time before they can get NMC protection. In Kaprizov’s case, his arrives July 1, 2024.

Kaprizov's NMC doesn't kick in until 2024/25, again try doing your research since you decided to say that to be. Also Foligno is a nice player, great guy, plays a good game, really like him but he only ever scored more than 20 goals once in his best year and only has 3 points in 10 games. Trading him for a good under rated prospect as a pending UFA isn't crap.

I wouldn't say Muk would need to pass Nemec but be good enough to be a roster player. Have two really good RHD in Hamilton and Marino right now. Could be a Severson extension but I think it wouldn't be ridiculous to fill that third pair roll with Walsh, Muk or someone else for the next year or two.

It's crap dude. What part don't you get our gm turned down a 1st for him? Apparently you can't accept that Minnesota has an owner that doesn't allow rebuilding or whatever you want to call it. Foligno and kaprizov are going nowhere. Deal with it

Ok that's fine. Absolutely nothing on this site is realistic, no reason to lose your mind on one trade. It's just for fun and general discussion.

Maybe so. They may look at it from longer view point…ie, that Nemec may be ahead of Hamilton and Marino in couple of years (Instead of giving up next year’s 3rd pair RD, they’d be giving up a future 1st pair RD).

Also, Hughes, Mukahamdullin and Walsh can all play LD too, so we’re not really looking at it like anyone is getting blocked yet.

Sure how about you go to do to other teams fans. Kaprizov and foligno are absolutely off limits. Guerin will get fired before that ever happens. You clearly don't know how Minnesota fans and media can get a gm fired. Michael Russo who covers wild got Paul Fenton fired. In NFL, when Brad Childress was fired, it was because of Minnesota media. If you didn't want that reaction, you should have done better proposals

Ok bud. Didn't think it was absolutely ridiculous to trade one guy for like 4 1st round picks plus.

I agree that Nemec could eventually supersede Hamilton and Marino as the top guy but if they wanted to make a move for a guy like Kaprizov, if he was ever available, an elite piece has to go back. So they would lose long term possibly at defence but guaranteed to gain in offence. Jersey is one of the only teams with the cap and the high end pieces to make a trade like that. They could likely try and sign Pastrnak in free agency for free but nothing is guaranteed there either. Either way it's something I thought of a few days ago and thought it would be fun to throw out there.

Yet you trade Minnesota franchise player for nothing. Apparently you don't understand understand you traded Minnesota franchise player for pieces Minnesota doesn't need & are stacked at . A d they don't need because they have Long term contracts, faber coming, and lambos, and multiple d prospects wild spent 1st round picks and 2nd round pick on and then wingers they don't need. You know what is funny, you are telling on yourself by keeping player like Hughes and 2023 pick then giving Minnesota 24. Those prospects do nothing for Minnesota
