Correct. They could get way more than a 3rd round pick for Chytil. Terrible idea, but in-line with your other ones.

I was thinking spare part for spare part in this trade. You sure Turcotte has more value than that?

Turcotte hasn't had a chance to showcase his talent because he's missed significant time with injuries (ankle and two concussions) and illnesses (mono and acute appendicitis). When he has been healthy, he has looked really good. The Kings aren't going to sell low on him.

That’s fair.

Chytil has to be worth more than that! And I'm not sure I would replace him with Turcotte.

I would think so too, but I’m using the Bjorkstrand trade as a paradigm. Rangers are going to be in the same cap crunch situation as the Blue Jackets. That’s why I sold low on Chytil and replaced him with Turcotte even though I’d much rather have the former.

Isn't the general consensus that the cap will bump to $86.5M this summer? You've got it at $83.5 - if the higher limit is the actual number, you don't need to sell Chytil in a Bjorkstrand-esque dump.

The reports I read consistently stated a LOT needed to go right for the NHL to have paid off their debts by the end of this season, otherwise the cap increase stays linear. That’s why I’m sticking with the assumption that the salary cap only goes up one million.

But if it does go up to $86.5m then yeah, this is a terrible trade for the Rangers lol.

I understand, but Chytil is still relative young. If he keeps it up I think a first or for Turcotte straight up. Just my opinion of course.

He's not expecting it to happen, but he's not expecting it to not happen either. Bettman said it would be close.

He confidently said they expect it to be, if not he would have been more conservative
