If Ehlers is out long term

Created by: tsyls
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 17, 2022

Description
Bowness spoke today about nothing being off the table for Ehlers. He skated yesterday but was not on the ice today and seems to have hit a snag in his recovery. He suffered a lower body injury in Mid-October, Bowness spoke about the jets needing to make a decision on him soon, which likely is whether or not he needs surgery. If he does get surgery, depending on the injury he’ll be out for a while.

The jets will have a few options while he’s out, which are to try and replace internally. This could come via a Lambert call up to play in the top 6. They could also look at adding a winger via trade. I think that is much more likely. Jets can trade from a position of strength at D for F. I think Vancouver is the ideal partner for that.
Trades
VAN
  1. Pionk, Neal
Additional Details:
I’d personally move pionk over DeMelo due to contract and team need. This also opens up a spot for Heinola. Not sure what the deal would look like as I believe Pionk holds more value than garland.

That is an overpay for the Jets. I just think Van would have to add in order to get Pionk, who is playing pretty well this year

Agreed. But I wasn’t sure how much they’d have to add so I just left it until I got feedback. Pionk has been solid, jets need a spot for heinola going forward and he doesn’t replace what DeMelo brings.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind getting Garland at all, but he definitely doesn't justify moving a top 4 RHD on a good contract. I also can't see the Jets moving one of their 2 RD. An LD sure, not RD.

Send Schmidt back. As much as I like him as a guy, he is the only one that is expendable.

We need Dillon's size and we need Demelo and Pionk RHS

I wonder if DeMelo+ would get Garland, would rather keep Pionk though I understand you've gotta give to get.

Personally I think they should just run with what they got, give Harkins a good long look with legit top 6 talent and top 6 time and see what he can do, a sink or swim moment which they've never really given him.

Maybe pick up some depth off waivers or sign some vet to a league minimum contract to fill out the 4th line/13th forward, a guy like Alex Chiasson is still without a contract I believe.

Should've signed Victor Rask, Galchenyuk or someone like that to a league minimum deal.

Nate isn’t waiving his NTC for that either lol.

Jets won’t be able to move Schmidt. Dillon is needed on the backend as no one else has his intangibles. That leaves DeMelo or Pionk to be moved. DeMelo is needed on the PK and is a stabilizing force. Which lead me to move pionk. That also opens up a spot for Heinola on the pp which is what Bowness said was holding him back.

Good luck moving that contract and Nate isn’t waiving for Vancouver.

Maybe lambert gets an opportunity at some point.

I appreciate why you did it, but at this point of the season and with how the Jets are playing, it just makes no sense to do it. Pionk plays a much more valuable position than Garland does and is a key player on defense. Don't get me wrong, I'd like the Jets to get Garland, I just don't see anything they'd be willing to move to get him that Vancouver would want/need.

Truthfully, again at this point of the season, I would be floored if the Jets moved any of their roster defensemen. I could see a Moose guy moving, but not one of the current top 6.

I'd move Heinola+ for Garland.

Something that could totally happen, Vancouver probably wants picks/prospects in any deals right now anyways.

I would move Pionk or Stanley. Our team is doing good without Stanley and moving Pionk would make room for Heinola.

I honestly don't know what's happening with Lambert at this point. The Moose aren't even playing Lambert so its probably unlikely that he gets called up at any point this season. Though I would love to see a line of Perfetti, Dubois, and Lambert sooner rather than later.

A decent trade would be Stanley for Kerfoot.

I like the kerfoot for Stanley deal, although moving pionk makes room for Heinola.
