Well Karlsson has a NMC so I don't think you have to worry about the habs trading for him.

Agreed. That was one of the IF`s in the article. Would Karlsson accept to go to Montreal

Karlsson isn't waiving for Montreal, Gallagher a smallish winger, Dadonov isn't waiving for any high taxed California team. And Mailoux is already a cancer. No way the Sharks accept this offer.

And oh FYI No way is Karlsson playing on the same team as Mike Hoffman, You can forget that ever happening.

It’s not like Johnson really knows what he is talking about anyway, so the Habs should be fine.

Replace Dadonov with Hoffman for the memes, and also because they can't play together.

That doesn't get you Karlsson. Dadonov is a UFA and has A goal in 12 games this season. Gallagher hasn't played in 60 regular season games in the last 3 seasons. He is also 30 and with 5 points in 16 games he is playing nowhere near his $6.5M cap hit which is for the next 4 seasons. Mailloux is more well known for his off the ice antics than his play. The 1st that is 3 years away might be the best piece in the trade.

I think whoever trades for Karlsson will be disappointed but if this is all SJS wants for him Montreal should absolutely make this trade. Even though he only plays about 50 games a season it is still worth more than they would be giving up

Mailloux is actually quite well-liked by his teammates. Since we're on the topic of cancers, Maybe focus on Bertuzzi a bit more.

If you're matching the cap, you're giving San Jose better picks/futures than what you have here. I'd assume they'd push for a conditional 1st (whichever is lower out of the two you have), plus a better prospect than Mailloux - someone in your 3-7 range of the top 10, thinking guys in the Barron/Roy/Kidney tier of prospects. As said up thread, I think you have to swap out Dadonov for Hoffman - the Habs have shown some promise and are gelling under MSL, so there's no sense in actively torpedoing the chemistry by making those two guys share a locker room. Gallagher makes sense because the term lines up and San Jose should take on *something* risky for getting a decent pick/prospect combo.

I don't *hate* the idea for the Habs, with a ton of "if"s - if Karlsson waives his NMC, if Price is truly done and can be stashed on LTIR as necessary, if the prospect cost isn't onerous, if San Jose is fine taking back those underwater contracts.

MTL is about the same total income tax as California, actually a little higher

I know all the more shocking he waived for MTL, Perhaps he just doesn't want to play in California.

Damn, some people are saying Montreal shouldn't do that lol

Karlsson 11.5 AAV x 5 years - Gallagher 6.5 AAV x 5 years

It would be like getting Karlsson at 5.0 AAV (+ a guy on his ELC to replace Gallagher, which shouldn't be too hard)

Plus Habs get to dump Dadonov for the rest of the season

All of this would only cost them a prospect who already had a lot of bad press in the QC province and a late 1st in 2025

Montreal should JUMP on this like crazy

I think this would just cause all sort of problems. Feel like a large purpose of trading Gally is to get that 6.5m off the books and either get someone with less term and less costly than 11.5m. Plus they have a solid D prospect pool, so this trade would just stunt their growth (especially if Edmundson, Savard, and Matheson remain in the line-up). IF this trade went through, someone would need to take control of Hoffman's wife's social media and text messaging.

if you are referring to what he said on Overdrive i think he was talking about a 3 team trade

i don't know if this makes sense but below is what i took from his comments

Example: SJS Trades Karlsson $1.5M retained for Gallagher (SJS saves $3.5M) then MTL trades Karlsson to a 3rd team and retains $3M on Karlsson (MTL saves $3.5M)

SJS Gives: Karlsson 1.5M Retained
SJS Gets: Gallagher + Picks/Prospects from 3rd team + 3.5M Cap Space

MTL Gives: Gallagher
MTL Gets: $3M of Karlsson Salary + MAYBE a later pick + $3.5M cap space

3rd Team Gives: Picks/Prospects to SJS
3rd Team Gets: Karlsson at $7M

I thought Quebec City had the highest income tax or cost of living. From Lindros whining about it when refused to play for Quebec, but that isn't the case.

Lindros didn`t want to play for Marcel Aubut because he was a racist pr!ck to everyone who wasn`t French
