Leafs interested in Myers

Created by: sedin33
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 17, 2022
Published: Nov. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Based on this rumour https://dailyhive.com/toronto/leafs-interested-canucks-tyler-myers.

Don't know if this works for either team, but money would need to come back to Van for the Leafs to do this deal.

Brodie is the Leafs top defenseman. He isn't going anywhere and is 100x more valuable than a 1 year term Myers.

/edit

Got Myers mixed up with Schenn's term.

Not sure if it's Brodie. If the Leafs are interested in Myers, then it's either Brodie or Muzzin that would come back.

It would basically be downgrading anyways

And the guy who reported this is a Sens reporter. I would take the report with a huge grain of salt

As yes Leafs are probs searching high and low but lets be real Myers is on the bottom of said list. As this to be reminds me of the Chiarot situation "Leafs kicking tires at Chiarot" remember that ****

As Myers is worse than Holl rn so it makes 0 sense to downgrade

The only way I would consider taking Myers is if Van retained 50% and threw Hoglander and only asked for a 5th

As yes he sucks but then you get a winger on a ELC so its a compromise

That's such an awful trade for the Leafs. I can't see Dubie doing that. I can see him being interested in trading for Myers. But he's not trading Brodie.

Leafs aren't trading Brodie, highly doubt they're actually interested in Myers but if they are they won't be trading Brodie for him.

And they should

As in reality they should just stick with what they got. Trade whoever they feel they dont need at the TDL who got value and then make a plan for next year (i.e. retool/rebuild/trade/ etc)

Priority for Van should be try and salvage Bear's career and get something more for him, get a Haul for Horvat, get something for Schenn and maybe consider trading Garland.

Brodie has a full NTC and he's not waiving it for Vancouver.

And Brodie is out on IR, Not sure when he's returning.

Myers has no value and this is a made up rumor. What it likely is, is speculation from a blogger and people jump on it like it's an actual insider rumor. It's not

Brodie is our best defenseman by a landslide, no shot we are moving him. Also, for future reference, if someone says Bruce Garrioch "reported" on something, just disregard it

Leafs have no interest in Myers, his play or his cap. Leafs are quite OK, with their right side of Brodie, Myers and Liljgren. In what world is Myers an improvement?

Gotta love canuckle fans. All summer it was how great the team is and how high can they finish. Now that they are tanking, I guess it’ll be how great their average players are and how much can they get for them 😕. Answer is not much. Horvat is a rental, Myers & OEL on terrible contracts, garland & schenn overrated, demko and Miller underperforming. Hughes and Peterson untouchable.

Both can nix the trade and would. Muzzin's career might be done, and there's no way Dubas trades Brodie for Myers, he's their most reliable defensive defenseman. If he's traded it would have to be for an upgrade, since that would be a top 2 defenseman who is as sound as Brodie defensively, and those don't grow on trees or come cheap.

This.

Rich comments coming from Leafs fans. At least, Our team has made it past the first round in the last 4 years.

I didn’t make up the story. I posted the source. I am theorizing about the potential trade given neither has cap space. Dubas has built a good team, but he has made some very bad moves. This trade wouldn’t necessarily be his worst

I'm saying the Leafs aren't going to trade Brodie, it really makes no sense for them to do so. If they are asking about Myers it's probably for him at 50% and the types of players that they would be offering is depth players like Engvall and futures.

Not that it's relevant at all, the Leafs may have lost in the qualifiers and 1st round last 6 years but Vancouver failed to make the playoffs in every year except the covid year which only the bottom 5 teams made it and that's the year they won qualifiers/1st round. I'm sure the Leafs could have won a round if they were constantly playing in the weak Pacific division instead of the Atlantic. Only weak opponents they had was the Habs really, and they probably should have beat CBJ too but that was the Canadian division and play-in year anyways.

I don’t think the Leafs can afford Myers at 50%. That’s why I was thinking that a player needed to come back. Only chose Brodie for cap reasons given that Muzzin is on LTIR

At 50% I think it would be fine if they just send Engvall out or perhaps it's Myers @3.5m with Kerfoot going out. It's not necessary that either Engvall or Kerfoot go to Vancouver, but that's how they would be able to get the cap to work. The Leafs have 2.1m in LTIR space available with Muzzin out, so it could even be Myers at 4m but I think for next year, they would want his hit under 4m if possible. They really like Holl so doubt that he's going to be the piece that they move but you never know, the other two have been rumored to have been shopped earlier in the season.

I wouldn't read too much into it though, Dubas is probably kicking tires on every dman that is potentially available.
