When did Jamie Oleksiak turn into a superstar for that return?
If you love overpays, wait til you see the second trade!
In all seriousness - I think that all 3 of these trades are overpays on Toronto's part.
-Oleksiak tops out as a solid second pair on a contender, and his contract is probably market value (ie, not really a bargain but not gonna kill you.) I'd argue that Sandin or the 1st would be more than what Seattle would ask for in an open market for him. Kerfoot is a useful enough player to be included for cap purposes here - even if you want to give him some negative value based on the fact that Toronto needs to move him, it's not enough to need more from the Leafs.
-I'd go full retention on Horvat FWIW, get that extra $500K out of the Canucks. But this is basically your top pick from last year, your top D prospect, and next year's 1st for Horvat/Schenn, with Engvall and Holl thrown in for cap purposes. Vancouver snaps it up on those futures alone, and I'd argue that Holl->Schenn isn't the upgrade most people think it is.
-Domi with zero retention probably gets back a 3rd. If you're giving a 2nd & a prospect, at least get the retention, no?
