The habs easily pass for a few reasons.

As much as people like to pile on gally with his underlying numbers even if the point production dries up he is still a 2-3 million dollar role guy. Sure he is overpaid by a few million but its not the end of the world.

Karlsson the last few seaspns has been playing like a 3 million dollar dman. His cap hit is 11.5 . Even how he is playing rn he is still not a 11.5 million dollar guy. The sheer price difference makes it way easier to bet on gally being less overpaid

2nd part going back to the cap hit. With price on LTIR already having another ltir person would be difficult and navigating 4 extra million isnt easy

Finally look at the comparable 2025 buyouts. Enough said

Hoffman would have to be moved either to SJ or another team. Him and Karlsson are never playing on the same team again.
