Why would Arizona care? Oilers are desperate

This probably does it once Yotes realize the market isn’t paying their asking price for JC. Secondary question - why do you think Chychrun is your answer to defensive challenges?

Forget the Cap crunch, this is why trades don't get done. Teams are only willing to give up their garbage for your best players.

No one is giving up a top prospect and the 8th overall pick from three years ago for Chyrchrun. He's been on the market for over a year.

I think whoever acquires Chychrun is going to feel a pretty serious sting. Arizona is willing to just sit in their hands, I’m sure they’d like more draft capital but they have 11 picks in the top two rounds over the next three years, you have to think they want some more talent that’s closer to NHL ready instead of just just stockpiling contracts from draft picks. Not to mention if they want first rounders from teams drafting at the bottom of the 1st round they’ll do why Montreal has done and take on contracts instead of giving up their assets. I would think they look at Bourgault, Schaefer ++ from Edmonton or look to a team like Ottawa whose first round pick is likely in the top 16

They will be happy take one or the other. It's not realistic for them to expect to get both and they probably don't want them both either.

They may want a sweetener to take Barrie though.

They don't take on contracts because they are a poor franchise, they want to move Chychrun before they have to pay that bonus next July. The will want as many picks as they can get this draft.

The only issue with this trade proposal is Barrie, I think they would rather take Puljujarvi or Yamamoto for cap + Foegele, then they move Foegele elsewhere.

I did see somewhere saying they wanted a top prospect+ two 1sts but not long ago I heard it was a top prospect+1st (or two 1sts) + some.

Yes and no, they took on Ladd, Little, Kassian plus the guys from Vancouver last season. Insured contracts and low salary/high cap hit contracts. If they wanted to stockpile picks from teams that want cap space to compete, there are contracts out there that paid their bonus last July and are due almost no money. If they are moving their best asset you would think they’d aim for a pick that won’t be in the last 10 spots of the draft.

Tough spot for Edmonton cause they’ll have to find a money in, money out deal and the money they’d be willing to move out just doesn’t have a ton of trade value.

It will be steep, that’s a lot. Will be a really interesting story to follow. I feel like it will be a draft day trade when more teams have an idea if they’ll compete next season and they can get a read on Chychurn’s health throughout this season

Yes, but how many of those contracts are bad contracts without trade protection? They already stock piled a ton of picks from taking on such contracts over the years, but at the same time moving out guys with value. They need to stay above the cap floor of course, so whenever they get the opportunity to take on bad contracts like those they do. Notice though how they have a ton of 2nds and 3rds and not a ton of firsts? So, the main way is going to be by moving guys with value on their team.

Will they be willing to take Barrie maybe, but perhaps not, there's more upside for them to take a guy like Puljujarvi. It's high time for Arizona to move Chychrun, so he's probably gone after he plays like 9 games or so.

I think they rather trade with Ottawa though, and take Zaitsev for extra payment. Similar cap hit to Chychrun like Barrie but he' s owed less by 0.5 mil.

Last week on NHL Tonight they were discussing Chychrun and they weren't sure he'd be traded because Arizona is still asking for the equivalent of 3 1st rd picks.
