Minnesota doesn't have the cap space to fit Aleksander Barkov.

A cold day in hell before Aaron Ekblad waives his NMC for Calgary, He's building a home not more than 15 minutes from Detroit's Little Caesars Arena. Detroit was his childhood team growing up. He'd waive for an up and coming Red Wings team before Calgary.

Zero chance Ottawa gives up a 1st for Forsling and to offload one year of Zaitsev, who is only owed $2.5 million in real money in the final year of his contract.

I wouldn't mind it as much if Forsling was a RHD

He's good but LD is just not a need for Ottawa

He's not that good, he's a number four defenceman and I'm not paying a 1st for that.

yeah but Zaitsev was going the other way

But you're right, it's much smarter to buyout Zaitsev rather than forcing him into a deal and diminish our asset

And moot point anyway as Forsling is LHD

They should package Zaitsev, Jarventie, and a 3rd to Arizona or whoever wants free assets.

Dorion would cement himself as the dumbest GM of all time.

Spend Jarventie (nearly 1st round pick 2 years ago) and another pick

or

buyout Zaitsev for 1.67 M$ spread over 2 years (not even 2 Gambrell salaries)

Zaitsev buyout would be $2.8 million the first year which will screw us cap wise.

yes it's a bit problematic the first year but only $833,334 the 2nd year

This is manageable next year though. Look at this ACGM for example :

https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/649758

DeBrincat at 8.5 AAV
Pinto at 3.0 AAV on a bridge
Zub at 5.0 AAV
Brannstrom at 2.0 AAV

Some of these might be even a bit generous

Even signed Motte at 1.5 AAV to replace Watson on the 4th line

In that ACGM, we traded for Mayo though who has a very low cap hit

I don't know what the best solution is and it's not my job. Maybe it's just better to trade DeBrincat and get a Top-4 RHD and a decent winger for that money (hopefully Formenton gets cleared) Don't forget Ridly Greig too, who will be on the team next year. Crookshank too IMO
