Kovacevic actually shoots right and is considered right handed. I know some people don’t like him but when he’s on the ice the Habs are 3.63 in goals for opportunities versus 1.58 goals against. Meaning he is efficient at getting puck out of his zone. He’s a good #6 dman.

Also, Logan Mailloux is the real deal. He is going to be an eventual #4 in the league. 14 GP 7 Goals 7 Assists 14 Points.

Justin Barron will also be a good D on the right. He had a slow start in Laval but has played well recently.

So the right side is not as bad as people think.

I don't disagree with you about any of those players, but what I've come to realize over the past 20 years is that depth at a position is all about being able to say, "if that guy does not work out, or does not live up to expectations, we have this other guy waiting in the wings."

We never know until they get to the NHL how they will perform. It's not like Nail Yakupov did not have good stats at the lower levels, right? The NHL is hard and there's no guarantees that Mailloux & Barron turn out to be the next Guhle & Harris.

At LHD, at Center, and at the Wings we have good depth in the sense that if Beck does not work out there's Kidney and Mysak and we don't have that many open slots. But at RHD we actually have 3 NHL spots "up for grabs". Yes Kovacevic is holding one of them down and I hope he can for a lot of years... But after 20 years of terrible drafting and asset management I don't wanna hope anymore, I want to know we have the required depth if one guy falters

You’d be better off targeting Boqvist, and the price would probably be a 1st or a 2nd+ (considering where MTL’s pick is likely to land). CBJ need more defensive-D, and fewer puck-moving scorers, which is Boqvist’s game.

It’s important for CBJ that CC is young, and is still waivers exempt, so (after he signs) he can stay in CLE, develop, and potentially move in as a Gudbranson replacement in two years or so.

Not thrilled about his injury history. He would definitely be a big add for the Habs, but is he unlucky or fragile?

I can’t account for his two years in CHI, though I’d say his most recent injury was more bad luck - ankle got hit by a puck and broke.

FWIW, I think when CBJ are spiraling the way they are, you also tell your guys “yeah, just take all the time you need.”

Really just unlucky. He's taken some weird hits into the boards that have caused his upper body injuries and blocking shots with his joints that cause the rest. One summer spent with an IV bag of whole milk and he should be good as new.
