Bruins Add Jeannot

Created by: BruinsWoahWoah
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 21, 2022
Published: Nov. 22, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think overall a more realistic move than adding Kaner.... get Mike Reilly off the books for next year and replace him with TVR as a depth D piece. Jeannot slides on the third line with Zacha and Coyle. Thoughts on the price for Jeannot?

Don’t see Preds trading him, if they do they get better offers.

It's a very underwhelming offer for Jeannot.

I think the price is close on the Reilly deal... I don't think Bruins want to retain any money for next year given their cap situation. Might have to add in a late round pick too, but Caps get a third round pick in a very deep draft to take for an NHLer on a not great contract for not long-term when they are going to be rebuilding.

Not sure about the cost of Jeannot, but Nash is getting a forward they are familiar with on retained salary, a young skilled prospect with top-6 potential who has put up a point per game in every league he's been in (probably our best prospect after Lysell and Lohrei) and is under club control for the next three years, and a third round pick.

Jeannot is a tough guy to value... he had a great rookie season but is old for his development, headed to RFA at the end of this season, and is off to a slow start to his second season. I think Nashville would listen to offers on him and Bruins would hope that the change of scenery would spark his game to similar production as last year.

With the Capitals being a team that is wanting to win now, might not be this year but next year they will expect that again, I don't think they would have that much interest in adding Reilly. They could probably get a 3rd or 4th for TVR giving his contract alone at the deadline, not to mention he's a RHD. I think the Bruins will need to try and find another team to eat that contract personally. Also a 3rd rounder would probably be the price for a team to eat that salary next season I would expect.
For Jeannot I don't think Nashville would want to trade him let alone trade him at a lower value given his production this year. Nashville as a whole has not been good whether its their coaching or whatever is going on there. That team I feel is too good to stick in a slump and I could see Jeannot starting to produce more as the team improves. As for value I like your choice of prospect, Merkulov is very intriguing. I don't think Smith, even retained really holds much value of any for Nashville. Merkulov holds 95% of the value in that trade as a 3rd Round pick in 2024 doesn't do much for a team trying to win now. I think if a team wants to pry a key player from another contending team that it would have to be quite an over payment.

-Caps have to deal with the cap, too - I can't see them doing this deal knowing that Nick Backstrom is aiming for a January return - they're going to have to jump through enough cap hoops as it is, I can't see them adding anywhere from $925K to $2.05M in cap, depending on whether they put Reilly in the AHL or keep him up.

-Not sure if Nashville bites. Jeannot is struggling this year but still has a couple years of control, while Smith is a pending UFA getting 4th line minutes. Merkulov is an interesting prospect but I'd think he'd be more interesting to a cap-strapped Bruins team than Nashville. Coin flip here, I could see it happening but will defer to any Preds fans that want to chime in on if they like the package.

If the Preds do move him, what do you think a better offer from the Bruins for Jeannot looks like?

It would take a 1st. Possibly a 2nd piece as well.

It’s not worth it

Caps won’t do that deal. We have 3 NHL level RHD and probably 5 LHD who can play at the NHL level.

And TVR probably could get a 3rd alone, without a salary dump on top of that
