Were Okhotyuk and Halonen called up? Or is that just who you think should?

Not a devils fan but why isn’t Hughes’ line the first line?

1st and 2nd line are pretty interchangeable. All of the lines are really, Hughes gets double-shifted onto other lines quite a bit.

Obviously he isn't good enough YET to stick in the NHL, but how did Holtz look overall? Does he look more or less promising now that you've had an extended look at him, or about the same?

Just my fill-ins. I don't think a corresponding roster move has been made or announced yet.

He didn't look comfortable in Ruff's system. Which is why I believe he was kept up for so long rather than getting sent down for AHL games, to learn it.

It's really on the 13 game winning streak though. If the Devils weren't on such a heater, Ruff would be more willing to switch things up a bit and get a look at different guys. I can't imagine Holtz will stay down there long, he's just probably getting a bit cold from being out of games for so long. Almost like they're getting sent down on a conditioning stint.

Hughes and Hischier lines are 1a and 1b...varies night-to-night on who gets more playing time.

When we win, Ruff keeps the line-up intact. We haven't lost in a month, so Holtz has been sitting around waiting to prove himself.

He looked great in pre-season. Confident, fast. Looked a little gun-shy in first few games.

We'll see. He's got time.

I think it's less about how Holtz has played and more about how good the rest of the team has been. There's just no one playing poorly enough to justify taking them out of the lineup.

Definitely. Also, I can see a lot of NJD's current NHL roster playing themselves into unaffordable raises and subsequently being traded over the next few years. So, it might be smart to extend his development a bit and stretch out his ELC and eventual "payday" as much as possible, really let him season and prove he is ready for the leap.

We used up both slide years already, but I'm all for saving a buck on his first RFA deal. Won't come until July 2025, so he'll probably have plenty of opportunity to earn his pay day.

Thought it was weird how long they have been up without playing, but it couldn't have hurt to been practicing with NHL players and being around the team with all this going on.

My bet is Johnsson and Wotherspoon get called up.

Wotherspoon would be an interesting call over Walsh or Okhotiuk...but if they will just sit in the suites, it would make sense.

Or nobody gets called up. They'd just sit in the press box. We can run with a shortened roster for a bit. We'll call people up before our next road trip, assuming it's outside of driving distance from Utica.

They leave for Buffalo tomorrow night after game.

Yeah, but Buffalo is within driving distance to Utica. If we have an injury, a call up would be easy. And then they come right back home. There's no need to call anyone up prematurely.

I was thinking about this as well.
The Devils are entering an 8 week stretch of VERY limited travel with a lot of games in the tri-state area.
The next roadtrip is Raleigh -> Miami starting Dec. 21st and ending the next day.
The next significant roadtrip is a west coast swing beginning Jan. 14th.

It'd make a ton of sense to set the roster to 20 men for now as that gets the Devils below 82.5m with LTIR included meaning they'll get the chance to accrue some additional cap space and could remain doing so when activating Palat and Blackwood in a couple of weeks.
Hope the Devils don't suffer any injuries during this stretch.
