That's a little much to pay if Allen is backing up

Edit: Nevermind, he has a 2 year extension. I do that.

I hope so.
I don't think so however.

I'm very interested to see how the Devils respond to adversity, particularly if there's an injury to to one of the defencemen.
I have a lot of faith in guys like Bahl, Okhotiuk, Walsh and Thompson but that depth is still quite untested at the NHL level.

Also, I'd rather not move that 1st.
Rather keep the pick and add another younger piece to the core.

Maybe, kind of, possibly this year.

But is that worth it? Without knowing the Meier extension, it’s hard to gauge how this impacts us in future. And if it’s straight rental…no thanks. He’d have to sign for under $7 million to justify that trade price.

As Seravalli said in his trade deadline piece…the Meier price will be very muted. If the Fiala return is the goal, they probably end up somewhere close to Reinhart return, with a chance of Buchnevich return. Nothing like this.

I would imagine it comes with an 8M extension or so, as long as the cap is expected to rise 4M

Only somewhat related, but I don't think a cap increase will lead to as big of a jump in salaries as most think. YOY increases have continued for the most part in flat cap years, as the cap has stood still. So there isn't much 'catching up' to do. If anything, it will just be the cap catching up to salaries.

You can't make this trade without knowing the cap is going to go up. If you do, and the cap surprises you, you might be costing yourself Bratt.

It'd probably be fine cap wise either way, be it a 1m increase or 4m increase.
A 1m increase would mean that you probably wouldn't be able to resign /get another veteran defender in.
Would have to bet on two of Luke Hughes, Bahl, Okhotiuk, Walsh or Nemec to be able for a full time job in the NHL come 23-24.
