If I were the Islanders I would offer:

2023 1st
2025 2nd (can become a 1st if NYI win a Cup in 2023, 2024 or 2025)
Robin Salo
Anthony Beauvillier

for

Kane (extended $8x3) but no salary retained. NYI will have the deadline cap space to afford him

Toews's resurgent season should definitely make a return like that plausible. Especially if you're able to pit contenders like Colorado and Vegas against each other in a bidding war

-Oof, don't let some of the Canes fans see you're going after Scott Morrow. He had a big D+1 year so I think his stock is much higher than his draft position would indicate. If the Canes were okay including him in the package, I'd honestly think this would get it done easily.

-I don't think C is really where Vegas needs to add - they've got Eichel, Chandler Stephenson, William Karlsson, and Nicolas Roy as guys who could all be comfortable playing top 6 C minutes, with Brett Howden being an effective 4C. This is a ton of assets for them to give up to upgrade a position that they don't necessarily need to upgrade. And Brossoit's not a contract they *need* to move - at the very least, with Nolan Patrick being basically LTIRetired at this point, his $1.2M cancels out the $1.2M penalty for burying Brossoit's deal - plus, if they move Brossoit, the only other goalie in the system with NHL experience would be 32 year old Michael Hutchinson. If last year's playoffs taught us anything, it's that having a 3rd goalie with some talent in your back pocket isn't necessarily a bad thing for a contending team.

-Isles pass. They don't need the retention, so even if they want Athanasiou, they're not giving up a 2nd - and I think if they're sending out picks for winger upgrades they're going to be either shopping in the bargain bin or going after a bigger name. They already have a glut of middle-6 forwards, including depth guys with NHL experience on their AHL team, so adding another body to that pile is like putting on a belt when you're already wearing suspenders.

edited to add: I also think you need to show more going to Arizona for retaining twice on your deals - they already have one retention slot being occupied by OEL's contract, so they're basically filling up their dance card as a favor to you. Not saying they need a 1st round pick or anything, but I don't think they're gonna do it for a pair of 4ths, either.

Yea i think that the hawks can get something close to this type of value for Kane, just not from the canes. I think the potential is there for a Kane to Carolina trade. Probably 2 other non-morrow prospects, a 1st and a 2nd/3rd. The canes have just never spent a lot of rentals. I think they could put together a package to get kane, just not involving their top prospect especially at RD.

Canes aren’t big rental fishers. With or without Morrow in that deal, we wouldn’t be players.

With Toews and Kane both having NMCs, they can be very selective on the teams they want to go come TDL. So they not not much of projected bidding war at all. Think Florida's fiasco last season by giving up good picks for a first year exit just my deter some bidders. And none of the Leafs TDL acquisitions in the past four years have helped at all. Just wonder how many real bidders there will be, unless a team really need to fill a hole due to injury.

That would maybe get Kane as a rental. If CHI could extend Kane for 3 years at $8M cap hit AND get him to waive his NMC, his price would be A LOT higher than that. So, negotiating an extension would have to be something you work out with him after the trade or over the summer. Also, extensions are technically an illegal trade condition anyway.

Yeah he signs right after like Pageau did. Isles would know if he would extend prior to the deal. You don't trade that much without it

I mean... That is barely the price of him as a rental. So yeah, if they are looking to load up for the playoffs, they do trade that much without "knowing". The NYI's cannot negotiate those kinds of things without permission from CHI's front office to do so. Also, I doubt Kane will be willing to negotiate any sort of extensions before the season is over, and I doubt he would be willing to take that kind of discount for any team other than CHI. Things absolutely could change and I could absolutely be wrong, but I'd be willing to bet he wants to be back in CHI next season regardless of what happens at the TDL. And I can pretty much guarantee CHI would want him and Toews back if they want to be here.

I think the Canes may very well be in the market for Kane, even as a rental. That's the business if you want to compete for a cup. I think he would be a great add. But Waddell will be very cautious what he gives up for even a player like Kane. Believe they would part with the 2023 1st much sooner than Morrow. I don't think Morrow is someone they will ever deal away.

Not paying that for Toews. We need a bigger scoring option, while he’s definitely been better not what I’m giving that kind of package for

Can also look at TB at the TDL. They did well. Adding a top flight player with 3 Cups and a Conn Smythe is lucrative. I’d do it. They need a little something to boost them past the top teams in the playoffs.

Maybe take him because he has the experience and has been a difference maker. And so other teams can’t get him.
