Most expensive koochie ever.

In all seriousness, that's really not a lot for a potential solid starter.

A very low risk, high reward contract. I love this deal for us because of his starting potential and he's already an amazing personality in the league. I don't know what our future goalie outlook will be, but for now I'm glad we have Kooch locked up.

Always risky to give real money to players with low mileage but he'll definitely get starts with Andersen and Raanta rotating injuries. Could be better than expected.

Low risk contract for someone who could eventually take the starter spot. Looks like either Raanta or Andersen won't be getting an extension.

Low risk high reward, definitely means one of Raanta/Freddy ( if not both ) are gone this offseason

That is a fantastic deal. Kooch is already worth 2 and is only getting better. Fantastic bargain for Waddell who always seems to do this

That's a nice contract even if he turns out to be just a backup or a 1B. Thank you, Buffalo!

I cant figure out why this contract is so liked....sure he may be a starter, might be a good one..but hes a 3rd stringer with 7 games experience. How many 3rd stringers are making much more than 1mil?
And i get that their top 2 are injury prone- and 1 is likely to be moved at some point...but this contract is a unique outlier (so far).

Could be an absolute steal. Like this a lot for Carolina, especially with ageing goalies

I thought it would be a 2 year bridge but man that's a good deal. He'll be the starter the next 4 years for 2mil... and at absolute worst an above average back up. We will probably be looking at this deal as the best in the NHL for a goalie, and a top contract overall after next year. I have no idea how someone could've voted no lol.

This is largely a deal based on potential. Kochetkov is currently a third-string goalie, but he's been one of Carolina's most hyped prospects almost since he was drafted, has dominated the AHL and has looked good in the NHL in the few games he's played despite having obvious positioning flaws (which a goalie coach should be able to fix) and not being fluent in English. His reflexes and athleticism are both very good and those are unteachable.

The Hurricanes wanted this deal because they think that they can lock up a future star for a few years before he starts demanding even more money. It's possible that he flames out or is uncoachable, or has already peaked at 23, but even in that case the buyout is cheap and burying the contract is only 750k.

Now this seems smart. The upside is there, the downside risk is not so high. I like it.

This deal starts next year, and both their #1 and #2 are pending UFA's. The key is his age and the length of this contract. If he stinks they can use the 1/3 buyout rule. So downside risk is low. If he works out to be 1b or better, they have a darling of a contract for 4 years. From a gamble perspective the upside is better than the downside risk.

Deal starts next year when both Raanta and Andersen are UFA's. They've set themselves up nicely to take their time to choose either of them with their second goalie chosen.

4 years contract for a goalie who played 11 NHL games is scary. I hope it turns out better than KK for them.
