Helping a Divisional Rival who helps us in return

Created by: T0R
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 23, 2022
Published: Nov. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Let Me Explain- When Cirelli comes back the Lightning need around 1.8 in CS to activate him so the Leafs will help them out by taking Foote who is scratched & PEB as a Cap Dump so they can Activate Tony when he needs to be. This also allows the Leafs to trade Holl when the team is healthy & save some more CS to upgrade at the TD whilst adding a Tall, Young & Physical Blue Liner that still has good potential

I see this as a Win/Win for both Sides, It frees 2 contract slots for Tampa whilst allowing them to activate Cirelli without risking someome on waivers & Adds something of need for the Leafs

Even assuming the Lightning would do something like this, which is the largest of stretches to start with, why would they do it with the Leafs? They could give away these players for nothing to a rebuilding team, say Anaheim, and keep their rivals weakened.

Why are you giving away a good prospect?

An Asset is an Asset, With their Assets diminished they may value having a pick for 2 guys who aren’t playing. Or they can waive them i think an asset is more appealing but that’s just me

Yes. An asset is an asset and the Lightning are giving away one for nothing here. They could minimize the damage by keeping that asset out of their division. Lots of teams would line up for Cal Foote at a nothing price.

He's dumping contracts because the Leafs are at 50/50.

Myers gets sent down (hopefully claimed on waivers. That clears most Koepke being waiver eligible goes down cap space created. So,no chance TB strengthens Toronto for a playoff run how delusional an idea.

Foote's not playing because of a dirty ass hit by Aube-Kubel he's IR not healthy scratch. How is Bellemare "not playing" he hasn't nor will he miss games (if healthy) top PK GUY.

He deleted it. There was a trade sending Max Ellis and Nick Abruzzese to Arizona for nothing.

Except there are probably many out of division teams that would also accept this deal so why would Tampa ever. I also don't think Leafs have enough contract slots to do this, correct me if i'm wrong on that.

PEB has played every game this season and Foote has been injured the last 4 games. yes Foote is expendable but he wouldn't be given up for free.

That explanation is completely devoid of any reality. Not a snowballs chance in Tampa in August of them doing that.
