Rangers clear Reaves contract and don't have to pay a thing.

Drury wins this one.

BG wanted a fighter and he got one, like the nic deslauriers trade last deadline. Only a 5th for a pure goon isn't horrible at all. Fair trade with a slight lean win to minnesota.

Wild realised they can't win as many games as they wanted, so instead of trying to improve, they chose to go bully mode

The Rangers spent a 3rd round pick in 2022 on Ryan Reaves for one purpose and one purpose only:

To protect the team from Tom Wilson.

According to hockeyfights.com, Reaves never fought Wilson when he was with the Rangers.

The Rangers now trade Reaves to the Wild for a 5th round pick in 2025.

This is horrible asset management by the Rangers.

The Minnesota Wild win the trade.

If Reaves was making league min, i'd call it a win for Minnesota. But new york clears cap and trades someone who is barely an nhler. W for New York but still bad asset management from them considering all they did was downgrade a couple rounds for one season of a pylon.

Oh my god you paid to bring Ryan Reeves in
You lost Rem Pitlick on waivers, you lost Tyson Jost on waivers
And now you pay to bring an old forward who can't score to a team that needs to score
What are you doing Bill???

Great trade for Minnesota. With 2 games remaining to play against the leafs this year he should be good for 4 goals.

Beautiful add for the Wild, a physical force that will destroy you every chance he gets. Leafs will add another Denis Malgin at the deadline

Making Cap Space for this Kane Trade

agreed

with no LTIR players for NYR, they really can improve their daily cap space a lot by dumping Reaves

if they pull a Kane trade (or other big name at TDL) they're winning this trade BIG time

Settle down. Pitlick wasn't good enough for our top 6 and stylistically didn't fit in our bottom 6. This year he cleared waivers and Montreal sent him down. Jost was pretty terrible for us and had been jumped in the lineup by AHL callups. Both of those were the right move to make.

Russo has clearly stated today that this deal does nothing to change what he's reported saying that Guerin is looking for top 6 help on the trade market.

Seems fair to me, no?

NYR gets some flexibility - odds a 5th round pick works out is super small.

MIN gets a guy who's going to entertain fans and no one is going to to touch Kaprizov now.

Minnesota has guys who can score, they just all seem to be experiencing a drought at the same time. I'm guessing they brought in Reaves in the hope that him throwing down will spark to offense back into life.

Bit of a Hail Mary from MIN but its not like they gave up much to do so.

How do the Wild have enough cap space for this trade ?

Don't they still owe $250 million to Parise and Suter.

Minne doesn't win a trade because the other team over paid for the guy they just got.

Minne loses the trade for trading a 5th instead of getting a 5th and Reeves for future consideration.

Reaves never had to fight Wilson at all, Reaves presence there would’ve probably been enough to scare Wilson off, now with Wilson out, and the Rangers have some big bodies on the way, plus younger guys, wasn’t needed

Also BG wanted his Nic Deslauries replacement, and he gets it, while Rangers save cash, regardless of the draft picks dealt in Reaves trades, both teams win

This is a Lose Lose Trade

For the rangers, the whole point of having Ryan Reaves is to protect your young guy and star players from guys like Tom Wilson, Pat maroon, and other enforces, is there a guy I'm forgetting about that is on a New York Rangers and can do the Enforcer job well because in the playoff standpoint this is not a good look for the Rangers.

For minnesota, unless they want to terrorize Colorado and the rest of the central physically, there was no reason why Minnesota should have traded for Ryan Reeves as he has 0 points in the last 30 games including playoffs (doesn't matter who you are that's concerning). Minnesota in the division where are you probably don't need a Enforcer to conquer and win as Minnesota different really have a notable rivalry with any team I can think of.
