Maybe in off-season, but I don’t see any reason to do this now as our need is better interior play. We are good on transition and playing on perimeter.

Absolutely not.

Any trade sending OEL to Boston gets declined.

Calling Coyle contract bad while downplaying OELs. LMAO.

This is it i think. I think this is the worst trade ever posted on this site.

Here are four things in this trade taht made absolutely zero sense - i can list more if you like
1. OEL to boston - never. Get real.
2. Coyle waiving his NTC for vancouver - no one wants to be there right now.
3. The bruins moving Carlo - why?
4. The bruins trading for a center - why?

Just horribly done.

Fair enough they are both bad contracts but with 900k or even up to 1.75 million retention I think it's a deal that can be dealt especially considering his contract can be bought out quite easily by the last couple years.

1. OEL is still a good top 4 dman and he's essentially being traded for Coyle who is also a bad contract
2. Idk if Coyle would waive but in terms of a city to live in Vancouver is one of the best in the world so who knows
3. I'm sure the Bruins don't want to get rid of Carlo but under the assumption that Horvat would be extended for 8 years at 7.5-7.75 million you have to give up an asset and the canucks need a top 4 RHD
4. The Bruins have an aging center core after this year if Bergeron and krejci retire you guys won't have a solid center a void that Horvat could fill also this makes the Bruins better today imo especially considering the switch from Coyle to Horvat is quite significant whilst the trade off between Carlo and OEL is not that bad IMO atleast for this year and the next.

Would not trade 1 for 1.

Honestly would not do this if you took Carlo out. OEL is such a negative value.

Coyle is one the most underrated and under appreciated players in the league.

200 foot player. Big. Right shot. Play both center and wing. Plays both special teams. Has become a great PK. Strong as anyone on the puck. Good shooting %. .5ppg from the 3rd line. Wins faceoffs.

Did they pay him to much? 🤷🏻‍♂️

He was a big need when they traded for him, going into UFA, coming off a 3.2m contract and a 16pt playoff in a pre-covid world. I thought he’d get 4.5. An extra 600k on a team that at the time was in great shape cap wise. Not that big of deal. In todays flat cap world 1m less would have nice. But they would have to pay that to replace him. And i doubt his replacement would be as complete a player. The vast majority of the “bad contract” crowd only judge by a boxscore and Boston fans who think everyone is overpaid after being spoiled with Bergy/Marchy/Pasta contracts.

He’s a key part of the team.

Boston has 5 LHD with term. Zero need for another. Even if he brought value.

I think if it was going to be done something like Carlo/Zacha for Bo/Schenn would be the deal. But i’d imagine Van would want a 1st in any deal. Only way i’d add the 1st into that is if Van added a 2nd +. Doubt i’d do it though.

1 - no he isn’t. He’s average at best defensively. Which could be overlooked if he was still a 15g 50pt guy, but he isn’t.
2 - Coyle is from Boston, playing for the team he grew up dreaming of playing for. I doubt anywhere looks as good. Maybe Fla/TB. Good weather tax havens.
3 - agree
4 - agree - but everyone thought Bergy was retiring and DK was done last offseason too. We have no idea what they will do. I’d rather be proactive and get someone in as a safety net as apposed to trying to plug the hole in the offseason. But i also don’t want to mess with the chemistry of this team either.

1. No, he isn’t. He stinks, and his contract is one of the worst in the league. The bruins have three left shot D that are better than him. If he was on the bruins i honestly don’t think he would be in the lineup.
2. Vancouver is amazing. It’s actually my favorite city in North America. Their hockey team is horrible though. That kind of matters to hockey players. Also, taxes. Not to mention coyle is from just outside boston. He’s also playing really well right now. He had knee surgery before last season, and it seems like he is now fully recovered. His game looks significantly different.
3. We have seen a lot of examples lately of players traded with an extension either in place, or discussed enough so the team acquiring the player is confident they’ll reach an extension. It doesn’t add a premium asset. It adds a kicker. That certainly doesn’t move it into the category of a club trading a top four d man with a good long term contract for an expiring contract.
4. The need for center is a future one, not a current one.
