That's a lot for the Leafs to give up when they don't have the cap to resign him next season....certainly different than DeBrincat.

The Leafs can extend him, all it will require is trading Nylander

I think Meier value is closer to what Minnesota got for Fiala.

Which was the #19 pick, and a guy selected at #45

Your first is going to be what, 26-32 if things go your way? I'd say Meier's return falls between the two, but Leafs will have to make up for how late the 1st is.

Doesn't make much sense long term for the leafs, even if they blow it up this coming offseason. Also, Timmons isn't going to play top pair minutes right away.

Maybe it could be 20-25 because it's a better draft. I'm a Habs fan by the way. Leafs are probably out in the first round again, their 1st will be 20-23.

How about we say Meier's 10m QO makes up for it. They probably do need to give a prospect though with the 2nd being a 2024 2nd or maybe a conditional 1st. I know they can't make a signing based condition but could they make a performance based condition for a future year? For example if the Leafs make it to the Conference Finals in 2023-24 and Meier's plays in 75% of the games. Would be a loophole but perhaps those type of conditions are restricted to players with a contract or the current year.
