So basically the Leafs get Jenner and Dumba for a pile of junk? Yeah right.

Jenner is captain and has a new extension - he isn't going anywhere.

Not saying CBJ like that trade, but as a Leaf I would have a cheaper Malgin\, Hirovan, and cap space rather than three seasons of Jenner starting next season. Admitting Jenner has good offensive season last season and so far this season.
Dumba play has declined . No reason to think he is better than Holl....who plays 20m a night, no PP time this season.

Columbus gm has to be battling Kenny Holl and for worst gm of the year; not saying this is good return, but why keep Boone if you can get value for him? Who cares if he’s your captain?
Kekalainen signed Johnny hockey and Laine to major long term FA deals and they are already out of the playoffs. Do you really think this team can compete next year or even year after without pretty big changes?

A lot can change in a year, Just ask MTL. Certainly doesn’t help to have almost half your cap hit on LTIR. I think with a Bedard or Fantilli, this team could be in a much better place come ‘23.

Having a great GM make good moves doesn’t always create on-ice results. Just ask NJ, the team who “won” the off-season like, three years in a row and only now are starting to show for it.

And, yes, CBJ could get value for Jenner, but just because ACGMs like to trade for Jenner doesn’t mean GMJK is getting calls for him. I doubt anybody is right now. Outside of an awful Gudbranson contract, I’ve been pretty happy with GMJK.

Lol what? He just landed the best free agent on the market. The gudbranson deal looks bad but that’s about it. They are out of the playoffs because they have the youngest team in the league and 40 million worth on IR. They are closing in on passing their total for man games lost already this season. This rebuild is going to take time and everyone knows that. Getting a top 5 draft pick is better than missing a WC spot if the team was healthy. Jackets have a ton of talent under the age of 25. Jarmo is constructing the roster to open the window in a few years and have it stay open for a long time

They weren’t winning before the injuries, which I admit are piling up. But sh$t happens - my Leafs are down our top 3 dmen and were missing our top 3 goalies for multiple games. Injuries alone do not explain this team’s dismal performance.

Rookies don’t have that much of an impact; even McDavid didn’t make the playoffs on a bad team in his rookie year.

But to each his own, I would fire your gm tomorrow and start trading anyone that won’t help competitive window which is at least 2-3 years away.

They were losing before the injuries, come on. Leafs (& other teams) have been hit just as hard with injuries. Blue Jacket squad construction has no balance. Excessive $ on ageing wingers with no elite centremen (at least not until younger guys arrive, which is no guarantee).
This team won’t be competitive for 3 years, minimum, imo. Gaudreau will be 32 or 33 with 4 or 5 years left on his massive deal at that point and Laine will be close to walking.
Terrible gm.

Leafs have now where near the amount of injuries in terms of the amount or the quality of players injured.

Aging wingers? Nyquist and voracek are the only players over 30 on the team. Nyquists deal is up after this year and voracek next year. Look at the talent under 25 and a loaded prospect pool which could add bedard as well. Only point that you are correct on is that the jackets don’t have an elite center but that changes if they get bedard or fantilli

Leafs lost their top 3 D, and both starting goalies for extended periods - gimme a break. Point is you don’t sign the best FA available (who is 29) when your competitive window is 2-3 years away. And no guarantee you get Bedard or Fantilli (there are lots of garbage teams in league) and even if you do, they won’t be impact players for a couple of years.

That’s a no from Columbus if they are going to move Jenner it’ll be for a better package then that pile of virtually nothing.

Why did the leafs sign JT if they still aren’t competitive then? Pretty ironic coming from a leafs fan

Possible, my feeling is your finnish GM would want Niemela but im not sure Dubas would do it.

He hasn’t shown a ton of interest in bringing in other Finnish players, in fact he’s gotten rid of more Finnish players then he’s brought in. I’d also say with Columbus already having Boqvist, Cuelamens, Peeke, Jiricek and Gudbranson there isn’t much of a need for a RHD like Niemela, plus it’s not even Niemela. It’s Hirvonen, who is a b level prospect and a LW Columbus really doesn’t need.
