Trade works out for both teams. Rangers get a proven backup goalie with some term and with salary retained who just won’t be given an opportunity to succeed once Philip Grubauer returns from injury, and Seattle gets a mid round pick and a still relatively young prospect who’s just not going to be able to get a roster spot as long as he’s in New York, whereas the prospect in question could very well see an opportunity in Seattle down the road.
