Description
Mangiapane has looked fine but really needs a boost. He was super successful last year playing with Backlund and Coleman so I think we should reunite that line

On the same note I think Huberdeau should be moved up. Every time he touches the puck it's electric. I think he's doing fine on the Backlund line but I think we should try to see how he does with a puck carrier like Naz. I think JH is playing a game he's not really used to right now where her has to be the main goal scorer and puck carrier on his line and IMO that's not really playing to his strengths. While I do think playing with a grinder like Coleman helps I think Dube can also play that role too

On a side note Mackey should probably be sent down, he's looked pretty brutal every time he's played and now Gilbert has passed him in the depth chart. Valimaki thriving in AZ is really looking like a blunder on that choice

What are your thoughts on:

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Ruzicka
Dube - Kadri - Toffoli
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic/Lewis/Rooney/Ritchie

I think Ruzicka's warts are showing in his game a little but, the inconsistency is starting to show up and his transition game doesn't look great. He gives me a little bit of a Monahan lite impression, every time he has the puck on his stick he wants to shoot, Huberdeau can facilitate that.

No doubt Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman should get a few games together here.

I like these lines as long as Dube & Toffoli will back Kadri up Defensively, otherwise I’d put Kadri with Grinders like Coleman, Lewis & Ritchie. Would that be the 2nd line or 3rd line, I don’t know or really think it matters

I’d really like to see Ruzicka on the Right Side with a Playmaker like Huberdeau. Whether that works best with Lindholm at Centre or Backlund is the question

I can’t argue Huberdeau eventually needs to be in the Top-6. We certainly didn’t sign him to be a 3rd liner

Who would you rather have at 4LW; Lucic or Rooney!?:

Mang has really struggled imo. He either can’t get his shots off, is missing wide open nets or has been poor defensively. He gave up a terrible giveaway in our own zone because he didn’t want to get hit

That said, I don’t think that lasts much longer, but he for sure should be demoted to line 3 with either Backlund & Dube or a reunion with Backlund & Coleman. I’ve pitched demoting he & Dube down to the 4th line for a few games, but I’d want Pelletier or Phillips with them. That would be interesting imo

I think both Rooney & Mackey need to be moved or waived and Lucic should be sat more often to make space for some of the Wranglers. We need to look internally for more scoring while we have time before going out and making a Trade, which likely happens closer to the deadline

Shouldn’t we be starting Vladar against WAS!?

He had such a great game in PIT that I feel he deserves the next start too

I don't mind it.

I do want to say something about Ruzicka. He reminds me a lot of Ferland. Not exactly a top 6 player but a player who works hard and gets rewarded for just going to the net. In an ideal world he is pushed down the lineup for superior players but we dont have that luxury right now. There are definitely flaws in his game and I agree they have shown in the recent couple but I think he's worth keeping in the top 6 for now simply because we need something working and there is synergy more than skill.

Definitely leave Ruzicka up there to work on and improve his flaws. Moving him down and changing roles won’t help unless he really drops off. His passes and shots look good and he’s using his size and reach pretty effectively.

He’s definitely one of, if not, the best Flames players at collecting and distributing pucks in the corners from either dump ins or scrambles lately. I see him becoming a quality Top-9 Power Forward on the Wing, especially if he learns to become more Physical
