There's really no point to acquiring Kane in BUF. They're not making the playoffs this year, and they'll be one of the front runners to sign him in the offseason. Why give up all these assets?

Also Sabres could just wait and sign him as a UFA and keep all that capital

Exactly, they don't need him this year. If they want him and he wants to go home to Buffalo to finish his career then he's UFA this summer anyhow.
