Nobody is giving a pick for him. Every team in the league has had multiple opportunities to have him for free, Nobody took him at full contract value.

That doesn’t give us as much information as you might think

Why would somebody pay a 4th for him when he has been on the waivers two times?

True plus things change. Look at Columbus and Toronto. Their blue lines are decimated. They are willing to do moves that they wouldn't have done few weeks ago (like trading for Timmins). Washington could also be a trade partner since they have a lot on money with Backstrom on LTIR.

Because things change. When Reilly was on waivers, some teams had a healthy defense group. CBJ is one of them, but now with Werenski out, they probably have the worst D-corp in the league.

Reilly has zero value around the league, he's currently buried in the minors. Sweeney would need to pay other GMs to take him off of his hands.

I guarantee you that Sweeney won't have to pay to trade him. I don't know why everybody thinks this. Mike Reilly isn't really appreciated in Boston because we have plenty of guys way better than him but he isn't that terrible. He draws plenty of attention around the league because he can play in a top 6 in the NHL, something some teams need right now.

No body is trading for Reilly, and no body is giving up a pick for him. The only reason is because he has 2 years left under contract vs just this season. All the teams you’ve brought up have major injuries right now, most of them will have those players back and healthy next season which means all those teams would have the extra 3 mil and a bottom pair LHD to deal with that they don’t necessarily need next season. Like Columbus, Werenski and others will be healthy for next season so taking a flier on a guy who will be a UFA after the season wouldn’t be such a bad thing, but they won’t need him next year when everyone is healthy.

Even if, perchance, your premise worked, I doubt Columbus would be part of it. For one, we've already got a ton of offensive-oriented LHDs. For another, Mike Reilly is no longer welcome in Columbus after stringing the franchise out saying "no, I'm totally going to sign, you guys took a chance on me by drafting me and I appreciate that" and then bolting via the college free agency loophole at the last minute.

Only 8 teams could have taken him. The rest did not have the cap. Those 8 teams did not need him. Multiple teams wanted to claim him but could not.

It’s helps to understand context.

If he was making league minimum and cleared twice, be different story.

Wherever he ends up, the B’s have to not take back cap. It’s a thought situation.

We'll let Kekalainen decide about that.

That’s not entirely true. They can take half his salary back and bury whoever it is in the minors. Clears almost all of it.

Nucks fan posted an interesting one. Mike Reilly for Riley Stillman. Stillman has 2 years like Reilly but his cap hit is 1.35. Buried its 225K. Helps Boston cap and Nucks get a big upgrade.

There are options.

i feel like the reason is very obvious? he passed through waivers twice this season. maybe this offseason with him only having one year left it’ll be a different story but i’d think if a team wanted him at his full hit he’d be gone already.

We'll let Kekalainen decide about that.

He already has before; you can tell by the lack of waiver wire claims. Him and all the other GMs.

Seriously, this fansplaining nonsense in which fans of other teams (and they're always O6 or Canadian team fans) try to babble to folks about how their team and their front office will do really should be considered a form of trolling. We don't presume to tell y'all how Boston does business, so **** right off with trying to tell us how the Blue Jackets handle things.

Blue Jackets had less injuries and a deal can still be worked out. It's not because he doesn't take claim him on waivers that a deal with salary retained/a sweetener isn't possible to be done. Second thing, by saying "We'll let Kekalainen decide about that", I was referencing to the salty fans that are mad Reilly didn't want to sign with CBJ. The people in the front office are pros and we'll see if that's a factor they consider.

Matt Benning didn't sign with the Bruins but I couldn't care less and I don't have any issue with him. It's a business. Do what is best for your team instead of being emotional because of the past.

You seem to have missed the first part of my first post here, in which it's pointed out that we already have a metric f***ton of offensive-oriented LHDs who can't defend (thus implying that adding another gives us nothing useful).

Hon? Kekalainen is the GM Reilly pulled that nonsense with. It wasn't during Howson's tenure. Kekalainen wanted to keep the guy. And he does not do repeat business with folks who mess with the team front office that way - past episodes with guys like Ryan Johansen and Josh Anderson have demonstrated that - because he feels (rightly IMO) that that has a significantly negative impact on the locker rom.

He ends up in Providence for the year until the playoffs/injuries, then he's back in Boston.
