Seeing if Horvat fits

Description
just a fun exercise with all the posts.

In the end it doesn't work because, even with moving Girard for an elc, it would force a decision between Rants(12m) and Toews(7m) extentions.
While Horvat would be a dynamic piece to add, it would narrow the cup window with all the subtractions to the Avs D core. Newhook will be a 2c when Toews and Rants need deals. A cheap, short term fix like J.Toews or uncle Rico would be a smarter option. I would rather a hard decision between Girard and Toews than an easy one in Rants and Toews lol

Well unless they send Newhook which Colorado should explore especially if Horvat plans to extend

1st + Newhook + Olofsson + Behrens (might need to add another pick) but it aint bad

thats the point, avs fans have been saying this for weeks, but some fans of other teams are telling them otherwise

they wouldnt do 1st + newhook, at no way are they trading their top fwd prospect and top D prospect as well for a rental, Yikes that is just a gross overpayment

Did say if Horvat plans to extend on arrival as 7 more years of 2c Horvat makes sense and honestly with Newhooks struggles go for it

Horvat in Colorado would be pretty good

and this proves that they cant extend him for 7 more years bc their roster is destroyed and now they dont have their best prosepcts to fill in the gaps
Horvat and a contract likes his will make the avs teams worse, not better

But what if you did the Anaheim trade first and send Helleson to Vancouver? That’d get Vancouver fans in agreement

Horvat may not be ideal for the Avs since Newhook would benefit from more time from being a no 2 center.

Also the team has Macs extension next season so it's going to be tight

Avs(any any gm with half a brain) wouldn't do that deal or anything similar.

This acgm is just to show how short sighted a Horvat deal would be for the Avs. He's great, but does not fit with the Avs plans. Ducks trade represents a blue chip prospect and an earlier 2nd from any team, I just picked the one with my favorite rhd.

To me if Horvat was willing to extend on arrival for 7 x 8yrs I would gladly move on as Newhook is struggling while Horvat is thriving. U worry about the final 4 years of the deal later but Horvat putting up 30 goals a season with Lehkonen and Nichuskin does sound nice. He can also PK. So that really wont come cheap especially if he is attached to an extension

Also could sign cheaper 4th liners as there are league min guys who can make an impact and allow for a 21 man team

That's exactly what it will be if it goes up by the talked about 4 mil if escrow and all that gets sorted early, but I doubt it will go up that much and the rest still stands.

Even VAN hockey writers are only talking one of Behrens, Olausson or Girard with a 24 1st for Horvat with an extension so no you aren't getting all that......and I thought it was Colorado where ppl were supposed to be smoking the good stuff!!! You could add Newhook to that list as well, and he would be the best choice IF Horvat were extended. The truth is that he likely can't be afforded even with a 4 mil raise in the cap. I don't think Byram gets as much as this but if EJ came back then I don't think he signs for that little either.

How about 6m-6.5mx8? That would beat a 7mx7 offers in many places.

They can fit him, but the question is would they want to. They would need to get rid of Newhook and Toews next year (if he wants 7m). They can keep Girard.

He’s asking for 8m+ aav x8 if he was willing to sign for 6m he’s not leaving Vancouver

That’s 64m contract he wants from the Canucks,
He’s not leaving that much money in the table on a career year

Oh if Girard is going yeah u can go less

But in general if Horvat keeps going till TDL hes gonna be very expensive especially with retention and an extension as next to Kane and Meier hes probs the 3rd best guy available

Yeah, that's what he wants from Vancouver, and why wouldn't he? He's their captain and they just signed Miller for 8mx7. They aren't even a competitive teams, so why would he take a discount?

If he hits free agency he's probably getting 7mx7 but even if he's getting 8mx7 in a place like Detroit, 6.5mx8 is almost the same after taxes. So, I wouldn't be surprised if he signed 6.5mx8, in either Boston or Colorado.

Even if they do sign Horvat for 7mx8 as shown here, all that needs to be done is keep Girard, trade Toews, and sign Newhook for 2m or replace him with someone taking that or less.

I would say not necessarily that expensive. As one of the VAN hockey writers pointed out, the closer it gets to the TDL the less control the team has. Sure they can trade him wherever as he doesn't have the protection but if he indicates that he isn't going to sign, or even indicates nothing, then VAN starts to fall into the hole of trade him for what they can get or risk losing him for nothing in the off season, and if we're getting into blinking contests Sakic at least is well known for not blinking first. Either way the most I'd offer is Newhook plus 24 1st IF it was a 'trade and sign'.
